Providence is calling a Supplemental Chaplain Non Certified (Chaplaincy Services, Variables, 0.0 FTE, On-call) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Accept and support the mission and values of both Holy Family Hospital and SHMC.

  • Support the Performance Improvement process.

  • Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.

  • Consider individual needs in communication with patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects, to include all age groups.

  • Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior.

  • Follow the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments & Compliance Integrity Program Employee Handbook and any other organizational or departmental materials related to compliance with laws and regulatory requirements.

  • Assesses the spiritual needs of patients, families, and staff.

  • Provides crisis interventions

  • Provides sacramental, prayer, and worship opportunities.

  • The Director and chaplains are familiar with various religious backgrounds and cultures. Must have knowledge of the Judeo/Christian context of pastoral care, other beliefs and traditions not Judeo/Christian, and be willing to be with people who are suffering.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Philosophy degree, or a degree in a related field

  • Master's Degree in Divinity

  • 2 years experience of:

  • Pastoral ministry experience from an accredited Catholic educational institution, with one year in a healthcare setting.

  • If currently in CPE training, an ordained priest who has completed the first CPE unit and planning to obtain further CPE and certification may be considered

  • Roman Catholic ordination.

  • Has faculties from the local ordinary (Bishop) to function as a priest within the local diocese.

  • An endorsement and recommendation letter from one’s local ordinary (Bishop) is required if not certified by NACC.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Four units CPE

  • Certification with NACC
