Providence Supervisor - Food and Nutrition in Spokane, Washington
Providence is calling a Supervisor - Food and Nutrition ( Food and Nutrition Services , Variable, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. In this position you will:
Customer Service: Maintain and promote positive, open and honest interpersonal relationships with customers (physicians, employees, visitors, patients, and other PSHMC publics). Provide high quality service to all customers; focuses on understanding customers’ needs and follows through. Demonstrate respect for the capabilities, different cultures and or personalities of co-workers and Medical Center publics within the mission/values of PSHMC.
Communication: Promote and demonstrate effective, open and honest written and verbal communication skills.
Self Management: Demonstrate self-management behaviors which reflect a positive image of PSHMC, following established policies and procedures and promote an efficient, cost effective work environment.
Ownership /Stewardship and Accountability: Demonstrate good stewardship of resources by treating property of customers, Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and co-workers with care and respect.
Teamwork: Work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of staff and other disciplines for problem solving without blaming.
Flexibility: Demonstrate flexibility by readily adapting to different situations to complete work.
Planning Performance: Collaborate with the Management Team to maintain a logical system of planning for the most cost effective use of resources to achieve the short and long term objectives of the department.
Assist Management Team in developing written objectives for the department.
Serve as a resource to staff regarding policies and procedures and is responsible to assure they are administered accurately and consistently.
Provide input for budget preparation regarding necessary Capital equipment, supplies, minor equipment, repairs and maintenance and labor required to accomplish department objectives.
Offer creative and innovative recommendations to the FNS Director for improving the utilization of existing resources to assure allocated resources are maximized.
Assist managers in assessing staff skill and knowledge in order to determine staff development needs.
Assist in department improvement efforts; develops a plan of work, if required.
Appropriately delegate tasks based on work needing to be done and skill levels and demonstrated competencies of staff.
Organizing Performance: Demonstrate the ability to assist the foodservice workers in identifying, arranging and prioritizing the work to be performed in a manner which is in compliance with regulatory standards and Medical Center values so that it is accomplished by the most cost effective individuals with a maximum degree of satisfaction for our customers.
Propose menu changes as determined by plate waste studies, or when requested.
Clarify job routines for FSW’s so expectations are clear and productivity is maximized
Reestablish work priorities for staff to compensate for unanticipated events.
Leading Performance: Assure the most effective utilization of Food and Nutrition resources by training and developing competent staff, practices empowerment, makes logical decisions and builds staff motivation so that staff will work to achieve their maximum potential
Decision are consistent with PSHMC philosophy, values, management responsibilities, ethical practice, policies and procedures, and contractual agreements.
Decision are supported by facts, consistent with approved plans, and made in a timely and responsible manner.
Disseminate information that affects staff responsibility and accountability as required.
Aware of staff morale and communicates to the FNS Director and Management Team to insure that support and appropriate interventions are implemented if needed.
Promote staff involvement in solving problems.
Inform FNS Director or Management Team when difficult problems, unusual developments or activities occur with staff and submits the appropriate report if needed.
Provide clear written and verbal communications that promote open lines of communication between staff and management.
Participate in performance improvement activities and reviews results of ongoing performance improvement. Example: Patient Satisfaction Survey
Role model and coach staff to achieve service excellence expectations.
Facilitate and coach staff to participate in decision making processes which affect their work.
Facilitate staff participation in meeting department goals and objectives.
Provide positive feedback to staff for improved/exceptional performance.
Maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
Available by pager or phone for timely communication when needed. Assign responsibility to another team member if not available.
Monitoring Performance: Provide positive feedback or constructive criticism so that staff performance is recognized and individual development is facilitated on a continuing basis.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the JCAHO standards.
Provide ongoing feedback to new staff during orientation and the probationary period as required.
Assist with staff evaluations as requested by department managers.
Monitor and provide feedback to managers related to attendance records of all staff.
Follow the progressive discipline policy using verbal coaching when required. Communicate patterns/trends of performance deficiencies to appropriate manager.
Assist the staff in developing a corrective action to improve performance deficiencies.
Intervene when unsafe practice and/or inappropriate behavior is witnessed or reported. Consult with FNS Director as needed.
Monitor staff’s timely completion of work at regular intervals and makes task adjustments or provides assistance as needed.
Staffing/Scheduling: Perform all the delegated staffing and scheduling tasks to assure adequate trained coverage during hours of operation and according to Personnel policies and any union contracts.
Assure the maintenance of an accurate, legible, and accessible staff schedule for use in planning.
Maintain staffing levels considering non-productive time use by staff, vacant positions and making adjustments in a timely manner. Notifies FNS Director if unable to meet staffing needs and an alternative plan is required to meet work demands.
Judiciously authorize the use of overtime.
Facilitate calling supplemental staff in to work if needed to fill scheduled shifts and meet work demands.
Communicate observed trends or changes in staffing needed to complete tasks in a satisfactory manner.
Schedule staffing coverage to enable staff to attend educational offerings and meetings if requested.
Assist in orienting new staff to the scheduling system.
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Current Washington State Food Handlers Permit.
3 years health care food service experience.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Dietetic Technician or Certified Dietary Manager
Lead or supervisor experience.
