Swedish Health Services Social Worker MSW - Swedish Cancer Institute Integrated Care in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Clinical Social Worker MSW (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) in Swedish Cancer Institute Integrated Care at Swedish First Hill in Seattle WA.

The Social Worker is responsible for a case load of 35-40 patients a month, which includes identification, assessment and intervention of patient / family needs including coordination of cancer support resources, referral to appropriate resources and emotional supportive counseling to patients and their families receiving their care at the Swedish Cancer Institute.

In this position you will:

  • Review the high-risk screening tool and identifies patients and their families in need of social work services

  • Conduct pre-assessment and triages referrals among social work team

  • Complete a psychosocial assessment to determine patient and family strengths and needs relative to living and coping optimally with diagnosis, treatment, follow up care and survivorship

  • Provide therapeutic interventions designed to address current and future problems as the patient’s medical and psychosocial needs evolve

  • Develop a case plan with patient and family based upon mutually agreed upon goals to enhance, maintain and promote optimal psychosocial functioning throughout the patient’s continuum of care

  • Provide consultation to SCI clinical staff on the psychosocial aspects of patients and their family member’s distress, care needs, and the services and resources to aid in obtaining optimal support throughout the continuum of care

  • Attend and participates in Social Work team meetings, PsychoOncology Consultation meetings and any other scheduled SCI staff meetings


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work.

  • Licensed Social Work Associate - Advanced (LSWAA) or Licensed Social Work Associate - Independent Clinical (LSWAIC)

  • 2 years Post-graduate experience in providing services to clients who have chronic and acute illness in a health care setting, preferably oncology; or graduated social work interns through the Swedish Cancer Institute internship program.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Advanced Social Worker (LASW) with Washington State Department of Health

  • Support group leadership experience

  • Hospice or home-health experience desirable to maximize psychosocial intervention in assisting patients with issues of disability, separation, loss and dying.
