Providence Senior Enterprise Architect in Seattle, Washington


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Enterprise Architect to our location in Irvine, CA; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Redmond, WA or Beaverton, OR.

We are seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect who will provide a bridge between specific business problems and issues and the solutions which are needed to support them.They require a knowledge of the Enterprise Architecture, as one of their roles is to ensure compliance with the Enterprise Architecture in the project. Senior Enterprise Architect roles are project facing and provide two areas of support:

With a business focus, ensuring the solution meets with the business requirements.

With an enterprise focus ensuring that the enterprise requirements for reuse, compliance to standards, principles, traceability to enterprise reference models, and alignment with the target enterprise architecture vision.

A Senior Enterprise Architect is a practitioner of solution and domain architecture. The Senior Enterprise Architect translates requirements created by functional analysts into the architecture for that solution and describing it through architecture and design artifacts. The rest of the team(s) then use those artifacts to implement the solution. The Senior Enterprise Architect's process typically involves leading the selection of the most appropriate technology for the problem.

A Senior Enterprise Architect focuses on converting requirements into the architecture and design that ultimately constitute the blueprint for the solution. In that process, the solution architect usually relies on design patterns from their previous engagements, published reference architectures, and on guidance from the Principle Enterprise Architect. In their efforts, Senior Enterprise Architects balance architectural concerns of the projects with the concerns of the enterprise.

The Senior Enterprise Architect is often the project team leader. As such, they are often expected to provide motivation and guidance to the entire team during the development life cycle. The Senior Enterprise Architect must ensure buy-in from the team, so that the team is motivated to match the detailed design of the solution to the higher-level architecture.

Senior Enterprise Architects play an important role in ensuring that the solution architecture aligns with the roadmaps established by the enterprise architecture, and that it adheres to the enterprise architecture principles. Senior Enterprise Architects are both a consumer and contributor to enterprise architecture collateral. Often, the patterns and guidance Senior Enterprise Architects develop becomes reusable in a broader enterprise architecture context.

A Senior Enterprise Architect is also expected to to be a specialist with deep knowledge within one or more domain(s)

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of the business for which the enterprise architecture is being developed.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.

  • Knowledge of IT governance and operations.

  • Knowledge of financial modeling as it pertains to IT investment.

  • Interpersonal and leadership skills - servant leadership, collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills.

  • Communication skills, both written and spoken.

  • Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.

  • Project and program management planning and organizational skills.

  • Customer service orientation.

  • Time management and prioritization.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 5 years experience in heald architecture related roles and responsibilities.

  • 7 years to be considered a subject matter expert (SME) in one or more domain areas.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education/experience.

  • 1-2 years Azure or AWS experience

  • 5 years Application Integration experience across multiple systems

  • Multi-tiered application experience desired (web/application/db)

  • Experience Guiding technical experts and projects teams to successful conclusion of projects

  • Able to document highly complex designs and workflows appropriately

  • Healthcare technology experience would be a plus
