Swedish Health Services Perioperative Support Technologist II - Anesthesia in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Perioperative Support Technologist II (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work in the Anesthesia Department at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, Washington.

This position is responsible for assisting the Anesthesiologist in all departments and with all anesthesia procedures, including expediting patient flow through the perioperative area, maintaining patient safety, developing and maintaining external (patient, surgeon) and internal (Anesthesiologist, staff) customer satisfaction. Responsible for set up, operation and some maintenance of specialized equipment, including life support.

In this position you will:

  • Arranges and prioritizes work assignments and schedule. Performs other planning tasks

  • Assists with patient flow in perioperative area including transporting patients in and out of the surgical suite, maintaining accountability for specific patients and surgical suites, and assisting other Technicians in providing service to patients

  • Preps patient for insertion of invasive lines. Sets up necessary procedure carts with aseptic technique. Sets up, calibrates and verifies function of anesthesia machines, invasive/non-invasive blood pressure monitors, ETCO2 and SPO2 monitors, autotransfusion equipment, etc.

  • Assists Anesthesiologists with procedures such as radial or femoral arterial lines, central lines, swan-ganz catheters and temporary pacer insertions

  • Initiates monitoring of patients by attaching EKG electrodes connecting invasive/non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, as well as pulse oximetry and ETCO2

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Secondary education in a medical or science based discipline

  • Successful completion of the Swedish Medical Center Anesthesia Tech Training program within the first 90 days in position

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers required at time of hire from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN)

  • Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist certification acquired within 90 days of employment

  • ACLS/PALS required within 6 months of employment

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Graduate of an accredited program i.e. EMT, Paramedic, RT, or Anesthesia Technology (AT) program

  • ACLS, EMT, Paramedic, RT, Medical, prior HCA licensing

  • Anesthesia Tech certification through ASATT

  • PBMT certification

  • One (1) year experience working in a similar capacity in an Anesthesia Department in a tertiary healthcare facility
