Swedish Health Services Credentialing Coordinator -Medical Staff Services in Seattle, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Credentialing Coordinator ( 1.0 FTE, Day Shift ) to work in the Medical Staff Services at Swedish Shared Services located in Seattle, WA.

The Credentials Coordinator position is responsible for facilitating all requests for initial appointment and/or clinical privileges, re-appointments, and annual reviews for approximately 500 physicians and allied health practitioners in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws and Policies, DNV, JCAHO and NCQA Accreditation Standards, Federal and State requirements and defined time lines. Interfaces with medical staff leadership and administration in the evaluation and approval process for these practitioners.

In this position you will:

  • Conducts primary source verification and data collection on all assigned applicants for medical staff membership and/or clinical privileges and bi-annual or annual reappointment/re-appraisals for medical and allied health staff practitioners in accordance with all requirements and time lines.

  • Advises medical staff leaders of any potential credentialing or other issues that may require further investigation and makes additional inquiries as requested. Notifies Manager of any major issues identified and participates in problem solving. Facilitates review of completed files with individual medical staff leaders prior to files going to committees and to the Board for approval

  • Establishes and maintains a credentials file for each assigned practitioner, filing information in the appropriate section and maintaining file in good order.

  • Facilitates the process for “interim” privileges that are requested, assuring that the individual’s file meets the requirements before such privileges are approved.

  • Interfaces with Medical Staff Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinators to obtain performance improvement and/or focussed review files for re-appointment and other reviews required for proctoring, or specific peer review requests by the medical staff leaders

  • Maintains confidentiality of all aspects of credentialing responsibilities, including file content, deliberations of the medical staff leaders, and all other actions involved in the credentialing and privileging process

  • Performs data entry into MD Staff software of new applications and all updates associated with initial appointment, re-appointment, other credentialing actions or practitioner changes requiring data modifications, including current updates to the program component that tracks file status at any given time in the process. Coordinates any file updates regarding expired information with Data Coordinator.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Two (2) years credentialing experience in acute care, CVO (centralized verification organization), and/or managed care environment, or healthcare experience in administrative support, patient registration working with the electronic medical record, and with credentialed medical staff members.

  • One (1) year experience in medical staff database management (Access or credentialing software), or electronic medical record.

  • Team lead should be certified

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist) or CPMSM (Certified Professional Medical Services Management) or actively seek and obtain CPCS within two years of hire into position
