Swedish Health Services Central Services Coordinator - Orthopedic Surgical Sterile Processing in Seattle, Washington

Description:

Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Central Services Coordinator (1.0 FTE, Evenings) to work in Orthopedic Surgical Sterile Processing at Swedish First Hill in Seattle, WA.

The Central Services Coordinator is an important team member in Peri-operative Services and the Interventional Platform as they are responsible for providing support for all Central Services activities in procedural areas. The Central Services Coordinator ensures that each procedure and core areas has complete, accurate and on-time sterile instrumentation, supplies, and implants. The Central Services Coordinator facilitates activities of Materials Distribution Technicians, Sterile Processing Technicians, and Central Services Technicians to to achieve instrument, supply, and equipment equilibrium for interventional procedures and interventional sterile supply cores.

In this position you will:

  • Thoroughly reviews the daily surgery schedule in advance to prepare for the next day’s and future instrumentation and supply needs. Works closely with Specialty Charge Nurses Materials Coordinator and other Central Services Coordinators to verify specialty requests, anticipate needs and problems, and prepare solutions or alternatives in advance. Communicates these plans to Interventional Platform and Central Services staff.

  • Works with Central Services Supervisors and Lead Central Services (CS), Materials Distribution, and Sterile Processing Technicians to set priorities of instrument needs for production and replenishment by Technicians.

  • Reviews case carts and logistics of instrument and supply delivery on day of surgery (scheduled and add-on cases) to ensure that each procedure has the requested materials complete, sterile and on time. Participates with Interventional Platform staff in making decisions about timing of add-on cases to ensure instrument, supply, and equipment availability.

  • Works with other Central Services Coordinators to anticipate, identify, plan for and resolve potential conflicts with shared or limited instrument and supply resources.

  • Assists with management of vendor sets, including coordination of needs with Specialty Charge Nurses, production in Central Services and readiness/ availability for surgery cases.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Completion of a formal Central Service Technician course or successfully challenge the Course test.

  • 3 years related experience with surgical instrumentation in hospital Sterile Processing/ Central Services environment

  • Current CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Central Supply Processing Department Technician) certification through internationally recognized organizations such as IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Experience in a large multi-specialty facility with more than 8 operating rooms

  • Prior experience working with an instrument tracking system, such as InstaCount Plus and PeopleSoft
