Providence Surgical Technician in Santa Monica, California
Description:
Providence is calling a Surgical Technician for Per Diem Variable Shift at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking a Surgical Technician who will be working under the direct supervision of the circulating Registered Nurse and in collaboration with the Specialty Coordinators and Principals of Schedule Management and Specialty Management, the Surgical Technician is an individual with demonstrated competence in surgical scrubbing technique(s) who provides scrub services for the department by:
Ensure the functionality, availability and sterility of OR supplies and equipment prior to the start of the daily caseload. Scrub and handle instruments during surgical procedures. Adhere to standards of aseptic technique in all phases of surgical intervention. Demonstrate competence in performing scrub services for a variety of surgical procedures. Assist designated Service-line Coordinator in receiving and stocking supplies/equipment for a cluster of specialties. Report variations in stock inventory level(s) to designated Service-line Coordinator. Communicate opportunities for systems improvement to designated Service-line Coordinator. Participate in selected patient care activities such as room turnover and transporting as needed. Participate in meeting the department's budgetary objectives. Supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of hospital administration and its representatives.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Comply with hospital, department and unit standards including, but not limited to, safety, CPR, infection control, quality management, environmental, confidentiality, and patient care
Perform patient care needs intervention based on nursing assessment and data collection
Participate in goal directed plan of care based on patient outcomes
Implement care based on department and hospital standards
Participate in evaluating effectiveness of performance
Delegate tasks and/or seeks assistance as necessary
Demonstrate applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served
Demonstrate competency in selected clinical skills including, but not limited to:
Surgical procedures
Equipment use and set up
Aseptic technique
Sterilization standards
Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to:
Attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality
Positive public relation image and working relationships
Obtain necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence
Complete all mandatory requirements, including annual safety films, CPR, infection control and annual physical
Participate in the development and attainment of team, department and hospital goals by:
Attend and participate in team meetings
Volunteer or accept assignment for projects
Share knowledge with peers by updating physician preference cards
Abide by mission, vision and team ground rules
Demonstrate appropriate documentation on patient care records and unit forms using established guidelines
Ensure the functionality, availability and sterility of OR supplies and equipment prior to the start of the daily caseload
Scrub and handle instruments safely during surgical procedures
Adhere to standards of strict aseptic technique in all phases of surgical intervention
Demonstrate competence in performing scrub services for a variety of surgical procedures within a cluster of specialties
Assist designated Specialty Coordinator in receiving and stocking supplies/equipment for a cluster of specialties
Adhere to the instrument tray protocols by keeping instruments properly grouped as established
Prevent accidental injury to self and others by disposing of all sharps separately from instrument trays as per safety guidelines
Report variations in stock inventory level(s) to designated Specialty Coordinator
Communicate identified opportunities for systems improvement to designated Specialty Coordinator
Communicate the removal of defective equipment from service and initiating maintenance and repair services without being so directed
Assume ownership for maintaining the cleanliness, safety and functionality of each operating room on a daily basis
Participate in the stocking and maintenance of supplies for each operating room without being so directed
Respond and participate in room turnaround process
Being readily available and willing to assist in emergencies at all times during the work shift
Seek out other tasks to perform (such as pulling for cases, assembling instrument trays) without being so directed
Communicate pertinent information to the Team Leader, Principals or other clinical staff in a timely manner so that problem resolution may take place without delay
Participate in the on call rotation (as eligible) to provide coverage for after hours and weekend surgical cases
Maintain par levels of arthroscopic supplies including implants. (Lead Tech Sports Medicine)
Coordinate equipment utilization for multiple sports medicine rooms.(Lead Tech Sports Medicine)
Recommend capital acquisition needs for arthroscopies. (Lead Tech Sports Medicine)
Ensure that all equipment used in arthroscopic surgeries is maintained in good working order. (Lead Tech Sports Medicine)
Maintain communication with Coordinator through weekly informal meetings (Lead Tech Sports Medicine)
Qualifications:
Required qualification for this position include:
High School diploma or equivalent
Completion of approved Surgical Technician course
Medical terminology
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate care
Basic computer skills (to access "MediTech")
Telephone skills
Knowledge of full spectrum of surgical instrumentation and OR suite equipment
Preferred qualification for this position include:
2 years experience as Scrub Technician
Surgical Technician certification
