We are seeking a Rapid Response RN - ICU who will independently use the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for patients. He/she will respond to the bedside of patients with suspected signs/symptoms of physiologic instability. The Rapid Response RN use information from a variety of sources to assess, plan, implement, identify outcomes and evaluate the patient's plan of care. The Rapid Response RN assumes a leadership role, directing and assisting team members in setting priorities for patient care. The Rapid Response RN responds to a variety of codes and alerts, identifies and assesses high-risk patients, rounds in patient care areas, and functions as a resource to clinical staff.

Maintains knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act
Demonstrate and maintain proficiency in complex clinical skills
Implement safe and therapeutic care to complex, high-risk patients, according to hospital policies, procedures, standards of care, and protocols
Review, analyze, evaluate and present data of post-rapid response/code blue patients
Apply problem-solving skills, formulating plans of care for conditions not frequently seen
Apply the nursing process to complex and changing situations
Demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills
Communicate patient condition/care changes to Charge Nurse, supervisor, medical staff and other team members
Anticipate and is prepared to present information to patients and families regarding plan of care
Coordinate a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to assessment
Will practice in various areas within their scope of practice and competencies, as necessary
Participate in team work groups and committees relevant to high-risk patients
Assist colleagues in identification of clinical practice problems and recommends solutions, resulting in improved nursing practice
Seek current evidence-based literature to support nursing practice
Demonstrate a leadership role in empowering patient/family to maximize participation in care and optimize their sense of control
Utilize software systems and programs to identify high-risk patients
Relieve the house supervisor and ICU Charge Nurse for meal and rest breaks
Review, round and address the EPIC MEWS and Septic indicators. (ex: MEWS score greater than 4)
Will assist with emergency procedures such as line insertions, ventriculostomies, emergent intubations, emergent diagnostic transports and supports the ICU Charge Nurse with any clinical assistance such as sheath removals
Will respond and assist with Massive Transfusion Protocols (MTP) and Super Stats
Follow-up and assess are ICU transfers to determine clinical stability
Will be a member of the Stroke Alert team
Will be the primary critical care nurse responder during a code-blue when the ICU Charge Nurse is not able to respond
Assesses and implement interventions for high-risk patients as defined in the Rapid Response Team protocol and guidelines
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of 12-lead EKG class
Current Healthcare Provider BLS card required
Current CA RN license required
Current ACLS card and NIHSS required
CCRN or CEN Certification within six (6) months of hire date, required
5 years Critical care experience
Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
Excellent mathematical/analytic data skills
Computer/Microsoft program skills
Exceptional critical thinking skills
Ability to concentrate in intense situations
Ability to coordinate and effectively delegate team activities
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelors degree in Nursing
