Providence is calling an Injury Prevention & Ergonomics Senior Specialist – PSJH to Providence Health & Services in Santa Monica, CA.
We are seeking an Injury Prevention & Ergonomics Senior Specialist – PSMS to manage programs for injury reduction, prevention and promotion of health at a regional level. The position will provide project management to new and existing programs in cooperation with the Manager of Injury Prevention for services of injury prevention including ergonomics, safe patient handling and injury services. The schedules managed by the IP&E Senior Specialist are to provide efficient and cost effective inter and intra facility coverage for ergonomics, safe patient handling and injury reduction services. In addition IP&E Senior Specialist will support safety compliance with yearly and ongoing staff education needs while promoting integration of services within a culture of safety, wellness and injury prevention. The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes Providence St. Joseph Health's mission values, and philosophy. In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Collaborates with the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics to address managers, directors, and administrators regarding awareness of workers' compensation trends and the need for engineering, administrative and work practice controls. Provides recommendations for provision of personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, safe patient handling and ergonomic equipment. Develops, implements and manages programs for injury prevention, safe patient handling, and ergonomics and develops these programs where they are not present or need improvement under the guidance of the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics.
Responsible for interdisciplinary collaboration towards a Culture of Safety, Health and Prevention and strives to establish best practices in these areas through successful outcome measures of improved employee and patient safety.
Provides ergonomic education, assessments, and injury prevention strategies to local ministries / departments under the guidance of the Manager of Injury Prevention & Ergonomics.
Uses research and evidence based practice to establish guidelines in decision making for solutions in risk reduction and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries.
Mentors, supports and trains Specialists and Coordinators to ensure appropriate skill sets for both functions and promote professional development.
Responsible for prioritization of work with departments with highest injury rates and determines root cause and establishment of an action plan for lowering injury rates and severity.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare related field (RN, OT, PT, ATC, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology
6 or more years of healthcare experience or a relevant combination of education and experience.
6 or more years experience in ergonomics or human factors in a healthcare setting.
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint basics, Outlook) to prepare data analysis, presentations and team communications.
Internet and basic research database search skills: Medline, Ovid, Pub Med, EBSCO, Google Scholar etc.
Moderate level computer skills (desktop and laptop) and basic office equipment including copy machines, scanners, calculators, projectors.
Knowledge of the human musculoskeletal system as it relates to normal function, injury, pathology and prevention.
Thorough understanding of the principles of ergonomics, safe patient handling and injury prevention as well as applicable regulations applied in a healthcare setting.
Active state license and/or certification as appropriate (i.e. PT, OT, RN).
Within 2 years certification in ergonomics or safe patient handling.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master’s Degree in Healthcare related field (RN, OT, PT, ATC, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology.
6 years of healthcare experience or a relevant combination of education and experience.
Coursework/Training in Basic Life Support.
Coursework/Training in Project Management related training (i.e. Lean, Continuous Improvement)
