We are seeking a Early Childhood Education Associate Teacher who will work as a member of the ECD early childhood education teaching team in all classrooms and areas of the program. Collaborates with Teachers in core curriculum planning and activities that are conducted in the classroom based off the NAEYC standards. Works closely with Early Childhood Education Teachers in supporting a developmental curriculum and age appropriate environment conducive to learning and social/emotional development; and maintains a classroom environment that is supportive and nurturing for children ranging in ages from (3 months - 5 years old).

In this position you will:

  • Demonstrate competency in selected child development skills including but not limited to:

  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of multi-activity curriculum materials and programs which include music, arts and crafts, social-emotional, physical, and cognitive, language arts, dramatic play, science, nutrition, and multi-cultural activities

  • Collaborate in the instruction, supervision, and the operation of classroom activities (indoor and outdoor)

  • Collaborate in general management of classroom functions: meals, cleanup, toileting procedures, attendance procedures, duplicating materials, bulletin boards, and other housekeeping responsibilities

  • Provide good role modeling of adult behavior for all children; engaging with children at appropriate times

  • Collaborate with Co-Teachers on children's developmental assessments and documentation

  • Document children's attendance, progress, daily behaviors and children's portfolios

  • Develop and maintain children’s indoor and outdoor environments that are nurturing, secure, safe; prevents accidents and illness; encourages play, exploration; promotes problem solving, learning and growth in all developmental areas; reflects children’s learning styles; and meets the needs of all children enrolled in the program

  • Work to implement an appropriate curriculum in relationship to the National Association of the Education of Young Children standards

  • Maintain anecdotal records and other related documentation to promote communication with other teachers and parents

  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding families enrolled

  • Work cooperatively with co-teachers, accept supervision as needed/given; and help to promote a positive atmosphere in the classroom and throughout the ECD program and in CFDC and the greater health center

  • Comply with hospital, department and unit standards including, but not limited to, safety, CPR, infection prevention, quality management, environmental, confidentiality, and patient care

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • 12 semester units of course work in Early Childhood Education including all CORE classes plus infant and Toddler Develoment units -AND-

  • CORE Units in Early Childhood Education :

  • Child/human growth and development

  • Introduction to Curriculum

  • The Child, Family & Community

  • 3 Units of Infant/Toddler Development -AND-

  • Current California Commission on Teaching Credentialing - Child Development Associate Permit

  • Current Infant, Child and Adult First Aid and CPR (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).

  • One (1) year of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool children on a supervised basis (can include practicum and/or fieldwork)

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills

  • Demonstrated written communication skills

  • Promotes information sharing

  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information

  • Demonstrate understanding of general principals of Child Development and NAEYC standards of practice of early childhood programs

  • Ability to substitute/extend shift as needed in all the age-groups/classrooms

  • Ability to willingly be flexible in scheduled hours to maintain staff-to-child rations and switch to unassigned classroom(s)

  • Ability to assess the schedule and adjust when necessary to maintain compliance with Teacher/Child rations. Flexibility in scheduled work hours and is required to work in all classrooms as needed

  • Proficient in P.C. software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and school communication apps

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work effectively with Co-Teachers in the program

  • Ability to work effectively with Co-Teachers, families and children in all classrooms

  • Ability handle emergency/crisis situations in a calm, competent manner

  • Demonstrate ability to understanding the unique and individual needs of children and family units

  • Ability to interact with supervisor, team members, other professionals, parents and children in a confidential and respectful manner

  • Ability to read, write, speak in order to communicate and complete required training documentation

  • Ability to organize, balance and prioritize the demands of children, parents, planning, paperwork/notes, environment and regulatory agencies

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationship with staff, management and other team members

  • Willingness and ability to promote expansion of knowledge in child development/early childhood education through workshops/classes, trainings and webinars

  • Ability to work flexible hours within the hours of operation 7:00 A.M. = 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday including some holidays

  • Early Childhood Directions Program is open all year round. Ability to work during Spring/Summer/Winter Breaks

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree in Working towards AA Degree
