Providence Health & Services Senior Manager Software Engineering (Azure Cloud) in Renton, Washington
Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Senior Manager Software Engineering (Azure Cloud) to our location in Renton, WA; Redmond, WA; Portland, OR; Irvine, CA or Beaverton, OR.
This Senior Manager and team work closely with the IS engineering, operations and solution design teams. The Software Engineering team provides the software needed to complete business solutions. This software includes integration of purchased products, enabling data transfers, notifications, monitoring, and governance and compliance controls. This role is focused enabling consumption of services and capabilities within our Azure environment and also providing tooling for ongoing management. As a result, this Senior Manager works closely and collaboratively with many different teams including IS Security, IS Networking, IS Architecture, and other IS Engineering teams.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for managing a team of engineers that leverage a portfolio of tools and technologies to implement high valued, reliable, and scalable business solutions. The Senior Manager is responsible for determining and maintaining standards for architecting, designing, implementing, deploying, and supporting software needed to complete business solutions. In addition, this manager is responsible for determining the standards for the processes and tools involved in software development along with the standards for code quality, security, and reliability.
The Senior Manager will maintain strategic 3rd party relationships, including open standards organizations, ensuring innovative strategies are incorporated into future roadmaps.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working in a distributed environment and leading geographically distributed teams. This Senior Manager develops the strategy and roadmap for continuously improving value derived from the organization's creation of software solutions in support of the organization's strategic initiatives.
In this position you will:
Senior Manager Core Responsibilities:
Use complex business information of varying types (to include financial; marketing; legal; functional) to manage strategies and determine roadmaps.
Accomplish work through subordinate senior-level managers; and/or high level individual contributors.
Identify and implement changes and improvements that accomplish long-range business objectives.
Guide team to engineer technical solutions to meet customer requirements with a balanced view toward performance, availability, security, and cost effectiveness.
Familiar with security, cloud services, automation, and current software development tools and technologies, Linux and Windows server technologies and tools.
Maintain forward looking and strategic partnerships with key technology vendors.
Advocate Engineering goals and commitments; understand the vision of PSJH and is able to deploy that vision through functional areas.
Responsible for determining and enforcing software development processes, code quality standards, and code security.
Responsible for delivering software development pipeline, software components and scripts.
Provide training and mentoring to help improve the skills and knowledge of team members.
Know when to proactively communicate with leadership about issues and problems that exist in their own functional area; performs daily interaction with staff; holds regular team meetings.
Develop effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
Maintain technical fluency and works to increase knowledge and skills.
Participate, as needed, in resolving critical incidents which may occur outside normal business hours.
May be required to travel up to 25% of work schedule.
Ensure architecture and designs are sound and are properly reviewed.
Teach and enforces best practices in code, test, and product quality.
Ensure all production software produced is able to be operated effectively in a production environment.
Keep team members motivated and working efficiently and effectively.
Lead the technical direction of the team and provides advice and input to technical direction across the Engineering team.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Sciences, or related field of study or equivalent educ/experience
8 years related experience
6 years leadership experience
Experience developing software in an Agile environment
Experience determining and measuring team performance metrics and software quality metrics
Experience implementing solutions using AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud services
Experience programming in languages such as C#, Java, C , Python, and SQL
Experience using automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Information Sciences, or related field of study
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Demonstrated analytical skills and data-driven approach
Strong verbal communication and listening skills
Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, executive management, and other stakeholders through positive interaction and problem identification and resolution
Excellent organizational skills
