THE ROLE

The Senior Director of Ambulatory Surgery Center Operations (SDO) role is designed to lead the performance and growth of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers across the Providence enterprise through continued development and optimization of the Ambulatory Surgery Center pillar within the Ambulatory Care Network of Providence health system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The SDO Ambulatory Surgery Centers reports to the Executive Director – Ambulatory Surgery Centers. The role is designed to lead the performance and growth of the ASC line of business across the Providence enterprise at a strategic level.

Responsibilities include:

  • Broad accountability for assuring long-term success of the ASC pillar through overall implementation and execution of deliverables in operations, outcomes, quality, experience, access and service within Providence.

  • Delivering on the operating commitments for the existing Ambulatory Surgery Center business - focused on people, quality and performance.

  • Leadership across regional operations leaders of ASCs, employed, foundation based, and independent providers, and shared services that impact the ASC business. The SDO will manage the team that handles ASC operations at the system and will always remain tightly aligned and integrated with region based operational teams.

  • Identifying opportunities to build new relationships and leverage existing ones in order to better serve our communities and to assure quality patient care is delivered consistently in all retail settings.

  • Facilitating the development and coordinating strategic growth plans for ASCs including operating budget, long range plans and business plans in partnership with Providence Regional Leadership and ASC Third Party Managers when and where appropriate. Ensuring that healthcare services are provided in a safe and cost-effective manner and within budget. This includes establishing and maintaining efficient systems, procedures and financial controls for the entire enterprise.

  • Leading the cross-regional integration of program best practices while focusing on the implementation of ASC volume growth strategies across the system.

  • The development of implementation work plans, management oversight systems and structures, common performance metrics and reporting tools for ambulatory surgery centers.

  • Facilitating integration of digital innovation and/or information technology products, clinical program alignment strategies and tactics between regional operating entities (acute care, ambulatory and medical groups).

  • Performing all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects the Sisters of Providence mission and philosophy.

  • Leading efforts across all regions, monitoring and supporting the quality of the delivery of ambulatory surgical services, including compliance with standards as required by federal, state and local regulatory bodies. Ensuring compliance by the division with all accreditation and legal requirements.

  • Creating and monitoring accountability across regions, medical groups and program service lines for quality, finance and governance. Preparing and implementing program service lines for health care reform, alternative payment methods and transparency in quality.

  • Partnering in the development and implementation of strategic and tactical marketing plans and programs designed to meet retail goals and objectives including outreach across ministries.

  • Ensuring the attainment of corporate objectives through the management of personnel. This includes, but is not limited to, providing a safe and challenging work environment for employees; reviewing employees' salaries, benefit programs and personnel policies; and selecting, developing, motivating and evaluating personnel. Encouraging the integration of the division within the community (including other community health, welfare and human resource agencies), utilizing effective public relations programs.

  • Ensuring that a liaison is established with local, state and national legislators, regulating agencies, trade and professional associations and representatives of industry to ensure that legislation and regulatory policies promote community health delivery models.

  • Maintaining relationships between Physician Services Executives, PSJH colleagues, health plans, Providence Provider Network, Joint Venture ASC partners and managers, and the various regions, and external retail partners and customers.

  • Participating in various committees of PSJH including the Ambulatory Care Network Executive Leadership Council, and various ASC governance structures.

  • Striving to maintain the image of Providence as a vital healthcare resource in the communities we serve.

Qualifications:

QUAILIFICATIONS

Required education/experience for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Master's Degree (MBA, MHA, MPH or similar)

  • 10 or more years of progressive leadership experience working with providers andother clinical leaders (Preferably in the surgical services arena, fiancé and operations leaders and executives)

  • A minimum of 15 years in healthcare or related retail field

  • Ability to treat all others with respect and demonstrate through leadership excellence, justice, and compassion in daily work and relationships with others.

  • An understanding of how the healthcare delivery system works at a big picture and detailed level, in terms of the relationships among patients, physicians, hospitals, long term care facilities, health plans, community agencies, suppliers and third party payers, as well as an understanding of the impact of the changing and competitive market is required

  • An established record as a strong team player, able to work closely with an established team of professionals.A true “servant leader” who is able to quickly establish rapport and gain respect, setting a high bar for the team to aspire to, establishing systems and processes to accomplish work and holding a team accountable to clear expectations.

  • Executive presence, and management skills necessary to provide leadership, develop leadership skills in others, achieve desired goals and interact effectively with the Physician Groups, System Leaders and Health Care Operations team members, business and community leaders

  • Effective interpersonal, decision-making and written and verbal communication skills. The ability to deal with stress and ambiguity as part of the evolution of this organization and the industry as a whole.

Preferred education/experience for this position include:

  • At least 5 years of significant governance and program development experience in the clinical realm, such as experience working with developing and implementing hospital command or medical group leadership

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience as a leader with responsibility for strategy, operations, and leadership development within an integrated delivery system or medical group
