Providence Health & Services On-call Registrar in Portland, Oregon
Providence is calling a Registrar (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.
We are seeking a Registrar to secure appropriate patient record and account reimbursement by obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.
This is an on-call role for a department that is open 24/7. Scheduling requirements are:
Need to be able to work 50% of weekends and 50% of holidays
Need to be capable of working all hours of the day
Need to be able to work shift lengths of 8, 9, 10 and 12 hours
Need to be available to work a minimum of 8 shifts per month
*NOTE: this position will require that the new hire work close to full-time hours the first couple of weeks for training purposes.
This position is a high pressure role, but exists on a great team. We're looking for someone with excellent customer service skills. Medical background isn't necessary - we're willing to train!
In this position you will:
Interview patients in a courteous, efficient, and accurate manner to ensure correct and complete information is obtained and documented.
Assess the patient’s ability to complete admission process prior to going to their hospital room or receiving services. Alerts clinical staff if the patient needs immediate attention.
Verify patients' demographic information and identifies them in the Providence Health System Master Patient Index or creates a new record in the MPI as appropriate.
Obtain required information from payor systems to ensure maximum reimbursement of all accounts. Identifies patients with non-participating plans and resolves issues with appropriate staff and physicians.
Verify and prepare all necessary forms, documents, plates, labels, and wristbands to ensure proper patient identification based on patient type.
Maintain current knowledge and competency of all government and third party payors which are complex and ever-changing.
Secure patients’ valuables in accordance with PHS procedures, providing appropriate validation documentation, and stores valuables in safe as needed. Returns valuables to patients at discharge and completes valuables log per policy.
Attempt collection of co-payments on all eligible accounts while ensuring accurate documentation of all activity in the computer system.
Develop and maintains knowledge of numerous complex compliance requirements. Ensures that compliance guidelines are followed for all Federal, State and other regulatory agencies, which include, but are not limited to, CMS, JCAHO, EMTALA, COBRA, and HIPAA.
Obtain all required data to meet the Providence Health Systems Regional Data Set, ensuring accurate and complete Master Person Index.
Ensure access to emergency healthcare is not compromised due to the premature collection of insurance data or copays, in compliance with the EMTALA regulations.
Request or provides Advance Directive information while utilizing standard tracking tools. Disseminates Patient Rights and Responsibilities information at the time of admission to appropriate patients according to age and type of admission.
Facilitate the rental of guest housing, including check-in procedure, collection and processing of payments, coordinating housekeeping, maintenance, and security services. (PPMC only)
Obtain inpatient and outpatient bed assignments in coordination with nursing units, and coordinates bed placement or transfers.
Develop and maintain knowledge of various complex Diagnostic Imaging test orders. Accurately enters orders for ancillary tests utilizing complex Diagnostic Imaging Matrix.
Required qualification in this position include:
High school diploma or equivalent
1 year experience in customer service or healthcare registration
Preferred qualification in this position include:
2 years college education
Satisfactory completion of college level Medical terminology or Medical Assistant course
Registrar and Third Party Payor experience
Healthcare experience in either a provider or payor site.
