Providence Laboratory Assistant 1 in Portland, Oregon
Description:
Providence is calling a Assistant Laboratory 1 - Regional Core Lab (0.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable) to Providence Office Park Portland in Portland, OR.
We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant 1 - Regional Core Lab who will be responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results. Supports personnel work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duty.
Additionally, this position is responsible for registering outpatient laboratory encounters obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.
Successful candidates will maintain up to date knowledge and competency on required registration functions.
The Asst-Lab 1 utilizes multiple computer applications in order to complete patient encounters.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Laboratory Compliance:
Demonstrate competency in compliance by carrying out personal responsibilities required by the PH&S Laboratory Compliance Plan, including annual training
Maintain knowledge of numerous complex dynamic compliance requirements
Ensure compliance is met with various Federal, State and other regulatory bodies which includes, but is not limited to CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), CAP, TJC (The Joint Commission), CLIA, EMTALA, COBRA and HIPPA
Technical Skills:
Understand specimen collection and handling requirements, general laboratory workflow and basic medical terminology
Accurately follows policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, referrals, reporting, filing, and/or recording patient results
Use basic computer skills to access appropriate HIS/LIS information
Recognize problems and identifies discrepancies, specimen integrity issues and is able to troubleshoot, resolve and document variances
Verify patient information and specimen requirements
Document and accurately receive, processes and distributes specimens to assure proper preservation of samples and timely analysis and reporting of results
Exhibit excellent telephone etiquette and Service Excellence skills, utilizing key words at key times
Quality Assessment:
Promptly and accurately documents basic specimen, patient, or client problems using the appropriate forms, logs, etc.
Complete written variances to ensure continuous quality improvement
Participate in department QA projects as requested or required
Productivity:
Complete assigned tasks, meeting section turn-around-times
Business Knowledge:
Understand and supports departmental goals
Respond to basic laboratory questions with accurate and complete information and refers questions appropriately
Adhere to PH&S and departmental policies and procedures
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
High School Diploma -OR- GED
Demonstrated outstanding Service Excellence experience
Clerical or client services experience
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computer applications
Preferred qualifications for this position includes:
Associate's Degree -OR- two (2) years college
Coursework/Training: Graduation from a Clinical Laboratory Assistant program or Phlebotomy program
Certification from an approved government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (ASCP, NCA, etc.)
Certification in phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, or clinical laborator
One (1) year of Healthcare or related field experience, or a combination of applicable experience and education
Industry related experience in a high volume, acute care setting
One (1) year of Phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, clinical laboratory experience
Job experience in specimen collection, specimen preparation and equipment operation, pneumatic tubes systems and other laboratory equipment
Knowledge of specimen handling and collection requirements, general laboratory workflow and basic medical terminology, Biology, understanding of Laboratory Medicine, anatomy and physiology, or equivalent exposure to these topics
