Providence Genomics Software Engineer in Portland, Oregon

Providence is calling a Software Engineer to the Molecular Genomics Lab at the Providence Office Park in Portland, OR

(1.0 FTE, Rotating/Variable Shift)

We are seeking a Genomics Software Engineer that will assist in the development and maintenance of cutting-edge web-based tools in support of our Clinical Cancer Genomics program under the direction of department leadership. This entry-level position will have opportunities to work on full stack development, including both front-end design challenges and cloud-based computational workflows. Under the guidance of experienced departmental staff, this position will assist with full life-cycle development and testing of software systems with a focus on robustness and scalability, new feature design, development and deployment. The Software Engineer will be integrated into a team engaged in computational biology activity ranging from storing, analyzing, visualizing and interpreting large-scale genomic data derived from advanced molecular genomic techniques including Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). This position will directly support clinical laboratory personnel and clinicians in the Providence Molecular Genomics Lab, a high capacity clinical genomic lab supporting both clinical and research efforts.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, development, implementation, and documentation of the software to support in-house clinical lab workflows for variant annotation, review, and reporting

  • Assist in the development of full stack software which integrates clinical and genomic data in a HIPAA secure environment

  • Work with clinical lab stakeholders to identify and develop enhancements to software and accompanying workflows

  • Apply modern software development approaches and technologies for secure, user friendly web applications

  • Work with data flows on multiple cloud providers

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Software Engineering-related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, -OR- Information Technology

  • Experience in Web Application Development, programming languages, such as Ruby, Javascript, Python and Git & GitHub. This experience can be obtained through college level coursework, or college level internship, or on-the-job (OJT) training
