Providence is calling a Assistant Member Research - Medical Research (1.0 FTE, Days) to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR
We are seeking a Assistant Member Research - Medical Research that will perform an advanced level of biomedical research to promote advanced research into cancer and is of critical importance to the research program at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute within the Providence Cancer Institute. The role is equivalent to that of an Assistant Professor at an academic institution or university. This individual exercises independent judgment with regard to the research conducted around a defined research area and takes full responsibility for the results and their acceptability by the scientific community. The Assistant Member is scientifically and administratively responsible for the activities conducted within their laboratory to include but not limited to; the design and analysis of research projects; collection and interpretation of data; grant and sponsored research preparation and submission; management of active grants and sponsored research; authoring scientific publications; management of laboratory staff including recruitment and performance management; and budget management.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Assume overall responsibility for a complex research area and for the development of new methodologies or processes to accomplish scientific objectives
Recruit and direct the work of scientific staff, providing guidance and consultation for problems encountered within the program
Mentor, teach and train post-doctoral fellows and graduate students
Publish results of research in peer-reviewed journals
Procure funding for research activities through the submission of grants/sponsored research, both public and private
Assist in the fundraising activities of the Providence Portland Medical Foundation
Promote the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute through representation at local, national and international meetings and conferences, including speaking engagements
Develop scientific collaborations with other researchers and institutions, both academic and private. Maintains academic appointments at other academic centers as appropriate
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Ph.D. -OR- M.D -OR- D.O. Biological sciences or related discipline with proficient knowledge of immunology -OR- equivalent education experience
Five (5) years of Biomedical research experience, including two plus (2) years of post-doctoral training
Expert experience using Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and EndNote
