Providence Supervisor Accounts Receivable Hospital Billing in Oregon


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Supervisor Accounts Receivable HB to our location in Portland, OR.

We are seeking a Supervisor Accounts Receivable HB who will organize, plan, develop, direct, and control function of accounts receivable, including insurance balances.

Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the Sisters of Providence mission and philosophy.

In this position you will:

  • Oversees daily work activities of all staff to ensure completion of jobs as expected, assuring account accuracy and providing follow-up/feedback/training to staff members as appropriate.

  • Supervises staff performance and developmental training, including ongoing performance, the development of corrective action plans and monitoring for improvement as needed.

  • Oversee global transplant billing.

  • Ensures correct billing to regulatory agencies for services provided to covered patients.

  • Reviews account audits, to ensure proper application of payments and adjustments and that appropriate actions steps are taken in addressing resolution of balance.

  • Provides credentialing for some physicians when notified of need.

  • Reviews all insurance contracts and understands contracted reimbursement rates.

  • Provides punctual performance evaluations for staff.

  • Monitors staff productivity by ongoing statistical evaluation, reviewing directly with staff and responding to areas of need.

  • Ensures accurate review and processing of complex medical claims.

  • Handles complex claim issues within turnaround standards.

  • Processes requests for reconsideration within time service standards.

  • Reviews of the A/R department production/efficiency reports to proactively identify and address any areas of potential concern.

  • Ensures monthly statistical reports and duties are completed timely.

  • Develops and maintains department policies, procedures, job descriptions and employee files.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5 years medical account collection experience.

  • Knowledge of all types of insurance plans (i.e. managed care, contracted, fee for service, third party liability.).

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 3 years supervisory experience.
