St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health RN II - Behavioral Health Services (Inpatient) in Orange, California

Our team is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Behavioral Health Services department at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is a full-time, 12-hour night shift position with 72 hours in a biweekly pay period.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Independently use the nursing process to care for a group of patients safely, therapeutically, and efficiently.

  • Use information from a variety of sources, including Jean Watson's Theory of Human Science and Caring to assess, plan, implement, identify outcomes, and evaluate patient’s plan of care.

  • Oversee the duties and competencies of the healthcare team; these include the performance of nursing assistant duties, clerical, food service, and environmental services duties as applicable.

  • Practice in accordance with all regulatory, professional, legal, and hospital policies.

  • Consistently demonstrate behaviors that model the SJHS core values and the Hospital’s mission statement.

Qualifications and Skills needed for this role:

Required qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute hospital setting.

  • Graduate of a school of nursing or enrolled in an accelerated program leading towards BSN or MSN degree

  • Must hold a current California Registered Nursing License.

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.

  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with patients, patients' families, and ancillary departments.

  • Adequate math skills and basic computer data entry skills.

  • Ability to coordinate and delegate team activities.

  • Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

  • One (1) year of experience in a similar department/unit

About the department you will serve:

The Behavioral Health Services department at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange is a 36-bed behavioral health unit caring for patients with psychiatric disorders, chemical dependency issues, and eating disorders. The unit is divided into two levels and patients are assigned to those levels based on their acuity. Our Level 1 unit consists of 12 semi-private patient beds and a seclusion room for our higher acuity patients. Level 2 is our lower acuity unit comprised of 24-beds in 4-bed rooms. We have group sessions that are conducted each day by members of our multidisciplinary team that include spiritual care, Modified Movement Instructor, Pharmacist, and Social Workers. The staff are incredibly supportive and flexible. It is not uncommon for a nurse assigned to one of the other levels to complete an admission for a colleague. The team is looking for someone that has a passion to work with the mentally ill and under-served.
