Providence Health & Services Unit Secretary - Emergency Services in Olympia, Washington


Providence is calling a Unit Secretary (0.875 FTE, Day Shift) to the Emergency Services Department at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.

Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs) coordinate unit activities with ancillary departments and perform clerical support for the unit . The clerical tasks include processing of patient orders, chart management, order processing, general support of the unit, and assisting with admission, transfer and discharge of routine and complex patients.

In this position you will:

  • Greets physicians, families and patients presenting to the nurses station and directs questions, comments or concerns to the appropriate individual

  • Responds to phone calls and intercom from physicians, families, patients and nurses and directs request to appropriate individuals

  • Performs clerical duties

  • Process orders, facilitate special requests, process paperwork for admission, transfer or discharge. Skilled in hospital wide computer entry system.

  • Acts as expert in the order entry system.

  • Recognize urgent vs non urgent requests and prioritizes accordingly.

  • Maintains responsibility for professional growth AND promotes the unit with in the institution and the community

  • Demonstrates ability to work with patients, managers and clients of various ages’ groups


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • One (1) year clerical experience in a medical field, such as medical assistant, unit secretary, admitting clerk, or medical office receptionist

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or GED
