St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Sterile Processing Technician - Sterile Processing in Napa, California

We are looking for a Sterile Processing Technician - National Union of Health Workers with the Sterile Processing Department at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Location: Napa, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours

Shift: 8 hour (Variable) Days

Job Summary:

Responsible for collecting, cleaning, inspecting, wrapping, sterilizing and distributing instruments, instrument trays, basins and equipment. Performs work under minimal supervision.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all duties of Sterile Processing Technician I and sterilizes instrumentation and supplies according to Medical Center policy. Records testing and loads content. Communicates issues related to testing results. Picks up and distributes Medical Center equipment for reprocessing.

  • Reports broken equipment, instruments and patient safety issues to management team immediately. Also inspects instrumentation for repair/replacement.

  • Cleans, assembles and wraps instrument trays. Is proficient in specialty and procedural trays.

  • Communicates clearly and professionally with all members of the healthcare team and other personnel.

  • Maintains department supplies at par levels and in orderly fashion, including items in/out for repair.

  • Seeks opportunities to act as a preceptor or mentor to others.

  • Has access to and/or handles medications according to the standards set by the Medical Center.

  • Work with vendors to coordinate cleaning, processing, movement of loaner trays in/out of Sterile Processing Department, and preparation for surgical cases.

Position Requirements:


  • High School graduate or equivalent

License / Certification:

  • Current Central Service Technician Certification

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
