St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Stationary Engineer in Napa, California

We are looking for a Stationary Engineer - OE (Int'l Union Operating Engineers, Stationary Local 39) with Plant Maintenance at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Location: Napa, CA

Shift: Full Time – 80 Biweekly Hours

Schedule: 10-Hour Variable shift

Job Summary:

A Stationary Engineer is responsible for providing an advanced level of support throughout the Hospital and must possess a professional and extensive level of healthcare property maintenance knowledge. A Stationary Engineer is accountable for managing the physical plant, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation operations with an emphasis on championing the patient experience, corporate standards, and regulatory requirements. Performs a multitude of engineering tasks to include the operation, repair and maintenance of all hospital utilities and equipment in order to provide continuous and uninterrupted service to the environment of care. Performs specific tests and inspections on critical building systems as well as routine preventive maintenance and repairs of a variety of hospital related equipment which provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors and employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Manager of Facilities by performing assigned work requests, scheduled or unscheduled

  • Maintains and repairs hospital systems and engineering equipment

  • Maintains and operates hospital critical utility systems

  • Responsible for observing all safety regulations and procedures

  • Contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department

  • Demonstrates an extensive working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance skills

  • Possesses the ability to be fully and independently capable of diagnosing, repairing, and servicing electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment throughout the Hospital, working at a journeyman level or equivalent

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certifications are typically required in electrical and HVAC trades

  • California Driver's License

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • Hospital experience

  • Advanced certifications

  • Local 39 trained stationary engineer or equivalent
