St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Clinical Dietitian - Dietary in Napa, California

We are looking for a Clinical Dietitian with the Dietary Department at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Location: Napa, CA

Schedule: On Call / Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under general direction, provides nutrition education to individuals and groups; plans, implements and evaluates a nutritional care plan for Medical Center patients and/or outpatient clinics insuring that The Joint Commission and Title XXII requirements are met and optimum support is provided to patients; confers with the management of Nutrition Services in coordinating nutritional support; initiates and participates in performance improvement monitoring activities; provides work direction to others; and performs other related work as required. Performs all work under minimal supervision.

Ages of Patients Served: Infant/Toddler (0-3), Children (4-12), Adolescent (13-20), Adult (21-64), Geriatric (65+)

Employee must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate with and provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Age-specific needs that the employee is required to know and understand will be reviewed and evaluated during job specific/department specific orientations and on-going thereafter.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs dietary care of patients including screening, assessment, and reassessment documentation, intervention and care to ensure patient nutrition needs and customer satisfaction levels are met.

  • Consults with and educates Medical Staff and Nurses; counsels patients and their families on proper nutritional care.

  • Collaborates and communicates with culinary and clinical departments on established processes, special diets, and menu requests as needed.

  • Stays current with most recent nutrition-related trends, research, policy, certifications, and standards of practice.

  • Probes potential problems and apprises manager of status on resolution of problems or issues, using appropriate resource(s) when necessary.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as Queen of the Valley Medical Center policies and procedures (e.g. HIPPA/Privacy Act, quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel).

  • Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements and communicates them to other departments.

  • When staffing permits, 20% of work time may be allocated to a specialty area of practice or area of interest which would generally align with a dietetic practice group(s). Hours provided to areas outside of the cost center will need to be pre-approved and transferred to the requesting department.

Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree

License/Certification: Current registration as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission of Dietetic Registration.
