St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Associate Communications Operator - Communications in Napa, California

We are looking for an Associate Communications Operator for the PBX Communications Department at Queen of the Valley Medical Center.

Location: Napa, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time - 64 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Under moderate supervision, answers a multi-incoming computerized PBX system and directs calls to the appropriate extension, department or individual. Responsible for monitoring and responding appropriately to medical emergency alarms, fire and equipment failure.

Essential Functions:

  • Answers all incoming and outgoing calls in a timely manner, communicating clearly using a courteous tone of voice and professional grammar. Uses various computer systems to route calls to employees and patients.

  • Accurately receives emergency information (i.e. alarm and code indicators) and notifies appropriate personnel and departments, documents all information and signals all clear as required.

  • Continually monitors Engineering/Security radio while on duty and notifies proper party of activity.

  • Knows and implements proper emergency phone backup system in event of malfunction, line outage or equipment breakdown.

  • Knows and follows appropriate procedures for using pagers, TDD phone and language interpretation services.

  • Locates reference materials as required in timely manner.

  • Maintains on-call reference sheet as shift requires. Logs all updates and changes

Skills:

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Customer service skills.

  • Ability to handle difficult callers and demands of high volume call traffic.

  • Knowledge of electronic and computerized PBX systems.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Experience in healthcare environment.

  • 1 year Computerized switchboard experience.
