St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Supervisor, Environmental Services (EVS) in Mission Viejo, California

We are looking for a Supervisor Environmental Services EVS for the Environmental Services at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

Location Mission Viejo, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Provides ongoing front-line leadership and management of employees, supervises daily work activities, and ensures hospital environment meets the highest standards of service. Owns the delivery and quality of service consistently, producing outrageous results. Has responsibility for effective management of productivity, scheduling, regulatory compliance and process improvement. Directly supervises approximately 30-35 Environmental Services employees and may indirectly supervise up to 40 personnel on a shift. Developing and implementing a project schedule, provides ongoing training and performance assessment of employees to maintain and improve employee competencies. Coordinates daily activities and work assignments and assists the EVS Manager as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Service Delivery and Management of Personnel: Manages level of work volume of staff by providing daily tasks and assignments, and oversees the work product of subordinate personnel. Responds to and manages work requests and work orders generated by customers through the dispatch center and takes action to complete said requests. Displays initiative in deriving excellence in personal performance and the performance of others, working directly with employees to communicate and uphold work expectations.

  • Quality Control: Proactively maintains a high standard of quality by regularly monitoring/scanning the environment for quality and takes appropriate action to correct gaps. Recommends painting, repairs and furnishings. Reports unsafe conditions. Ensures customer satisfaction with follow-through communication. Review standards and work procedures for all EVS staff in accordance with established policies and practices of the facility. Responds to and resolves day-to-day customer issues/problems /service requests.

  • Systems Management: Monitors labor productivity, employee scheduling, regulatory compliance and staff competency through a variety of systems. Oversees collection of data relevant to before mentioned systems, for reporting to senior EVS management to facilitate decision making. Responsible for daily communication to staff regarding department and hospital policies and/or initiatives.

  • Staff Hiring, Training and Performance Management: Interviews and participates in selection of new staff members. Conducts and provides oversight for the orientation of new staff members. Provides on-going training for all staff members. Responsible for overseeing performance appraisal and competency assessment process. With manager, administers disciplinary process and assists team in resolving complex employee relations issues.

  • Special Projects: Develops project calendar and is responsible for its timely completion. As needed, modifies procedures and utilization of available resources to assure satisfactory completion of projects. Communicates with customers and stakeholders to achieve collaboration in the completion of projects.

  • Patient Flow: Oversees patient room discharge cleaning process through bed management system and pager. Prioritizes room cleaning and directs staff and resources to achieve efficient discharge times and quality of cleanliness. Produces daily report to continually monitor discharge cleaning performance.

  • Supply Management: Monitors floor level tools and supply inventories to assure employees have the tools and resources needed to perform work. Places weekly supply order and works collaboratively with peers and manager to ensure supplies are available. Manages distribution of supplies to dispensing centers where the staff replenishes EVS carts.

  • Must prioritize multiple assignments and projects and may deviate from normal routine as necessary.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Position requires interaction with a diverse range of people at all levels of the organization and community.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

  • In depth knowledge of housekeeping procedures, equipment, and work processes.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage a fluctuating workload.

  • Proficient in required competencies upon completion of orientation as indicated on the unit specific competency inventory.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED

Experience: 4 years experience in Environmental Services, or 2 years supervisory experience in Environmental services.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications: Hard floor and carpet certification.
