St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Senior I.R./Cath Lab Technologist - Cardiac Cath Lab (Invasive) in Mission Viejo, California

We are looking for a Senior Interventional Radiology (IR) and Cath Lab Technologist for the Cardiac Cath Lab (Invasive) Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

Location: Mission Viejo, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours

Shift: 10 hour, Days

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Radiologic Technologist assists Radiologists, Cardiologists, and Interventionists in the performance of Interventional, Angiographic and Therapeutic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients by imaging, monitoring, or scrub assisting for these physicians while maintaining a safe quality patient environment. Also operates conventional, fluoroscopic, or portable radiology equipment to obtain routine radiographs of designated body portions, providing assessment and care for neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients according to physician specifications. In doing so, positions patients and adjust equipment to correct setting for each examination. In addition to patient imaging, will assist with and/or provide input for technologist schedules, evaluation, selection process, and orientation of radiologic technologist to the department.

Essential Functions:

  • Sets up and operates radiographic equipment to obtain, digital subtraction, angiography conventional, and fluoroscopy exams. Performs quality and timely radiologic and interventional procedures, demonstrating thorough knowledge of radiographic equipment to support accurate medical diagnosis. Appropriately prepares and positions patients for procedures or exams. Resolves problems independently and effectively to ensure optimal patient care obtaining proper end results.

  • Assists Radiologist, Cardiologists and Interventionists in procedures as a scrub technician to expedite the flow of interventional, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures by knowing the preparation and use of cardiovascular and/or interventional catheters, associated procedure trays and equipment, and assisting in their use and makes recommendations to expedite the flow.

  • Completes requisitions, patient charges and patient exam documentation and patient charges. Performs post procedure processing where information is immediately available for the physician for post procedure diagnoses. Completes and accurately documents individual assignments independently as requested, as well as, performing other duties assigned by the supervisor.

  • Monitors performance of Radiologic Technologist to ensure work is carried out in accordance with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Monitors and interprets ECGs and anticipates and prepares for treatment of patient in response to rhythms as needed. Senior Technologist operates equipment, trouble shoots and scrubs complex EP and/or Neurologic Interventional procedures in both cardiovascular and interventional cases depending on skills for advancement to Senior Technologist. Dual modality Sr. Technologist operates, trouble shoots, and scrubs cases in both the Interventional and Cardiovascular labs.

  • Assists in the post procedure care of the angiography patient being utilized in the capacity of obtaining hemostasis on femoral, brachial, and axillary arterial and venous punctures, recognizing and addressing the age-related needs of the specific population served.

  • Participates in instructing new personnel to ensure proper orientation.

  • Serves as a nursing resource person to the department, the hospital, and the community to provide accurate information according to current special procedure standards of care, on infants, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Monitors inventory and supplies on an on-going basis.

  • I.R/Cath Lab Techs working in Cath Lab Services monitor patient hemodynamics during and after interventional and/or cardiac procedure anticipating interventions. Process accurate hemodynamic data results as a part of the patient record.

• Performs dual (Interventional and Cardiovascular) modalities, or

• Performs single modality and complex neuro.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for routine contact with employees, physicians, patients, and patient’s families.

  • Visual capabilities to observe patients and equipment.

  • Excellent radiation safety skills to include wearing lead protection as well protective measures and patient safety measures/precautions.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent hand-eye coordination in working with delicate equipment.

  • Bodies of knowledge including:

• Physics, math, anatomy, computer basics, basic hemodynamic principles, film processing, basic electronics.

• Knowledge of purpose or function of various guide wires and catheters.

• Knowledge of contrast materials and contrast reaction interventions.

• Technical expertise in operating equipment.

  • Ability to work with others in a flexible and cooperative manner.

  • Ability to handle intense situations.

  • Ability to perform necessary procedures and knowledge of age specific protocols.

  • Proficient in required and related Special Procedure Technologist competencies upon completion of orientation as listed on the unit specific competency inventory.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : Coursework/Training - 2 year formal training in radiology special procedures or equivalent educ/experience

Experience : 2 years of experience as a Special Procedures Technologist.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • C.R.T.

  • A.R.R.T.

  • California Fluoroscopy Permit.

  • Healthcare Provider level BLS certification.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education : Coursework/Training - Participation in continuing education program.

Experience : 2 years of experience in a special procedures or Cardiovascular Lab.
