We are looking for a Clinical Pharmacy Data Analyst with Pharmacy -

MV Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.

Location: Primarily Mission Viejo, CA with the occasional need to float to Laguna Beach, CA

Schedule: Full-time 80 Biweekly Hour

Shift: 8 Hour Day Shift

Job Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Pharmacy and Manager of Support Services, the Pharmacy Automation Analyst – Pyxis Support will provide critical monitoring and maintenance of the ministry's barcoding and unit dose repackaging systems. In addition, the analyst may be asked to provide auditing, billing, utilization and documentation reporting and support and engage in other problem solving and external duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the daily monitoring of all activities relating to Automated Dispensing Cabinet operation including inventory control, pocket monitoring, minor repair and maintenance, control substance inventory control, reconciling of errors and reporting issues and unresolved discrepancies to pharmacy management in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for daily troubleshooting and oversight of the operation, daily utilization, and maintenance of the Automated Dispensing Cabinets including establishing (in conjunction with pharmacy management) PAR levels and appropriate distribution of medications within the cabinets.

  • Works with pharmacy management, nursing and physicians to ensure timely billing and auditing of Pyxis and non-Pyxis generated charging including reconciling anesthesia reports with Pyxis reports and reporting discrepancies/errors to the appropriate departments.

  • Performs daily activities such as reviewing Pyxis and other non-Pyxis reports to ensure accountability of drug utilization throughout the hospital, monitoring/reconciling discrepancies (in conjunction with pharmacist staff), waste documentation, and reviewing relevant reports to ensure accurate and complete charge capturing.

  • Effectively prioritizes work assignments and demonstrates good organizational and multi-tasking skills to manage assigned tasks, projects and deadlines.

  • This includes working as a technician or performing certain technician duties within the department as needed to meet staffing needs.

  • Helps coordinate disposal of expired/unusable/contaminated medications from Pyxis machines on a regular basis and helps maintain proper record keeping to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Provides training, orientation and in-service support to pharmacy, nursing and other staff on all pharmacy automation applications (i.e. ADC, packager) and troubleshooting procedures.

  • Demonstrates proactive approach in identifying education opportunities to address areas of non-compliance, inefficiency and safety risks.

  • Performs audits, engages problem solving, generates reports and generally aids pharmacy management in researching trends, issues and problems in automation areas.

  • Accepts and performs other duties and responsibilities as delegated by pharmacy management.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with pharmacy personnel, patients, administrative personnel, nursing, and medical staff, ancillary departments, and others.

  • Organizational skills necessary to coordinate departmental and interdepartmental activities and to assimilate large bodies of complex information into an efficient, functioning system.

  • Independent problem resolution skills to effectively solve operational problems.

  • Good typing, math, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology, weights, and measures, and pharmacy math.

Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED


  • 3 years Hospital pharmacy technician work experience.

  • Experience with a medication order entry module (i.e. MEDITECH) and automated medication-dispensing system (i.e. Pyxis).

License and Certificate: Current California certificate as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
