St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Cardiovascular Technician - Nuclear Medicine in Mission Viejo, California

We are looking for a Cardiovascular Technician with MHMG Plaza Nuclear Medicine Department at St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare.

Location: Mission Viejo, CA

Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly hours

Shift: 8 hour Days

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Department Manager and under general supervision, according to established procedures and protocols, the Cardiovascular Technician will perform treadmill stress testing, Holter monitor hook-ups, event monitors and the accompanying scanning or recording all test data and ensuring data is processed and labeled for review to be interpreted by dictating physicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Instructs and educates patients regarding the test procedure, the patient expectation, the gathering of data and the physician interpretation process.

  • Knowledge of adult cardiac anatomy, physiology, EKG arrhythmias and medical terminology and to notify appropriate personnel.

  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and appropriate manner in order to accomplish a valid test.

  • Takes accurate vital signs, perform EKG, perform pacemaker checks, Holter/event monitors and identify changes in heart rhythm and/or blood pressures, identify changes in the patient awareness and quickly respond to the need accordingly.

  • Participates in emergency response to patients by activating the Code Blue Response plan and beginning CPR.

  • Documents pertinent information appropriately and completely in the medical record.

  • Communicates and supports physician needs during the testing procedures.

Skills:

  • Data entry and editing of EKG’s.

  • Basic 12 Lead EKG interpretation.

  • Ability to recognize normal versus abnormal cardiac rhythms.

  • Ability to maintain composure during emergency situations.

  • Knowledge of equipment.

  • Ability to work with patients to the desired heart rate and recover the patient post procedure.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and facilitates routine maintenance and repairs.

  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients and/or family members, physicians and other office personnel.

  • Total knowledge of adult and pediatric cardiac anatomy, physiology, EKG arrhythmias, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to perform all aspects of non-invasive cardiac testing on newborns through geriatric patients, per strict department protocols.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Analytical skills necessary in order to recognize abnormal heart rhythms and artifacts on test data, and to notify appropriate personnel.

  • Ability to work with others in a flexible and cooperative manner, and to handle constant interruptions (i.e. telephones, scheduling, physician requests, etc.).

  • Excellent telephone etiquette skills.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred.

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • Completion of EKG Tech Program from an accredited vocational school or college.

Experience:

  • 6 months Experience in an acute or ambulatory care setting

  • Experience with Allscripts, IDX, Cardiowrite, Word, Excel, Meditech, and Citrix.

Certificates/License:

  • Cardiovascular Technician Certificate.

  • Current BLS certificate.

Preferred Position Requirements:

Education: Associate's Degree

Experience:

  • EKG Technician experience.

Certificates/License:

  • Certificate in arrhythmia recognition/interpretation preferred.

  • Active CVT certification preferred.
