St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Cardiovascular Technician - Cardiology - Non-Invasive in Mission Viejo, California

We are looking for a Cardiovascular Technician for the Cardiology - Non-Invasive Department at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center

Location: Mission Viejo, CA

Work Schedule: Part time - 40 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Reports to Department Manager. Under general supervision and according to established procedures, operates EKG machines to record routine tracings of the heart, applies and scans holter (D.C.G.) recordings to analyze abnormal rhythms, and operates treadmill monitoring equipment for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, in order to obtain pertinent patient data. All data is processed and labeled for review to be interpreted by dictating physicians.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform quality and timely noninvasive cardiology procedures on all age groups, and demonstrates the ability to assess/meet the psychosocial and developmental age-related needs of the specific population served, according to established policies and procedures, which includes EKGs, stress testing, heart monitoring, 24 hour holters (DCGs) telephone EKGs, pacemaker programs, and blood pressure devices. Demonstrates the ability to perform behavioral competencies (generic & unit specific) as indicated on the competency inventory.

  • Performs timely and accurate final EKG editing on MUSE system. Processes tracings with physician’s signature for distribution to patient charts, medical records and referring physician.

  • Performs miscellaneous clerical duties professionally, accurately, and timely such as answering telephones, scheduling appointments, filing records, and preparing patient charges, and so forth.

  • Ensures department records and files are properly maintained and directs preparation of reports and analyses reflecting department activities such as number of patients seen, equipment, and supply usage.

  • Maintain equipment in clean and proper working order and replenish supplies as necessary. Notifies supervisor of any equipment malfunctions requiring outside service or in-house repair by Bio-Medical Department.

Skills:

  • Total knowledge of adult and pediatric cardiac anatomy, physiology, EKG arrhythmias, and medical terminology.

  • Computer skills include data entry and editing of EKGs.

  • Ability to perform all aspects of non-invasive cardiac testing on newborns through geriatric patients, per strict department protocols.

  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Analytical skills necessary in order to recognize abnormal heart rhythms and artifacts on test data, and to notify appropriate personnel.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients and/or family members and to communicate effectively with physicians and hospital personnel.

  • Ability to walk long distances throughout the hospital, and stand up to 50% of work time, and lift and position heavy adult patients for up to 10% of the time. Must be able to carry, pull, or push heavy cardiology equipment on wheels weighing up to five hundred pounds.

  • Ability to work with others in a flexible and cooperative manner, and to handle constant interruptions (i.e. telephones, scheduling, physician requests, etc.).

  • Telephone etiquette skills.

  • Proficient in required competencies upon completion of orientation, as listed on the unit specific competency inventory.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • Coursework/Training - 6 months school for Cardiovascular technology (CVT). Or equivalent educ/experience

Experience: 6 months hospital experience which may include 1 year cardiology tech hospital internship time.

Licenses/Certifications: Healthcare Provider level BLS certification.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience: 1 year hospital experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certificate in arrhythmia recognition/interpretation.

  • Active CVT certification.
