We are seeking a Manager Nursing Education - Nursing Service Administration that will provide direct supervision for nursing education ensuring comprehensive education services. The Manager provides day-to-day immediate management of department operations, thus allowing the Director opportunity to focus on long-term planning, budget, goals, outcomes, decision-making and other higher-level management functions. This position also assists with quality review, performance management, customer service, and staffing management. The scope and span of control for the Manager may include more than one unit and/or clinical service.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Assure employee understanding and commitment to organization Mission, Vision, and Demonstrate Core Values

  • Support ongoing development of expert nursing practice

  • Lead competency based approach to nursing education and development including orientation and annual education requirements

  • Assess outcomes of continuing education programs and professional development of staff and new hires

  • Coordinate education across departments and contributes to the setting of practice standards to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, evidenced based practice, polices and professional standards

  • Contribute to developing and maintaining departmental quality management program in accordance with organizational guidelines, which exceed community standards, including compliance with all laws, regulations and requirements of appropriate licensing and accrediting bodies

  • Provide administrative oversight to the clinical educators and guides professional development

  • Assist with the development of a departmental strategic plan and vision complying with organizational guidelines

  • Contribute to the development of annual departmental budgets

  • Manage human resources to achieve the highest levels of performance by retaining and attracting the most competent employees

  • Within the delegated authority accomplishes management tasks:

  • Demonstrate responsibility for day-to-day department activities related to:

  • Staffing and supervision

  • Performance management, recognition mentoring and coaching

  • Business processes

  • Effective leadership and communication

  • Hire new employees involving staff in hiring criteria and interview process

  • Perform timely and accurate evaluations of staff according to Providence standards

  • Conduct progressive discipline process and employee termination process under the direction of the Director

  • Collaborate with Director to update and revise policies, procedures, protocols, processes, standards, and job descriptions

  • Demonstrate above average skill in conflict resolution, negotiation of solutions, and communication of positive and constructive feedback within the department and at the hospital level

  • Participate as representative of the department on hospital wide committees

  • Ensure new hire and annual evaluations are completed in a timely manner

  • Function as a role model for communication, mission integrity, and professional behavior in all areas of responsibility

  • Facilitate team work and department pride

  • Display a positive image of leadership:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill to facilitate groups of diverse backgrounds and opinions

  • Display, promote, and coach professional behavioral standards

  • Demonstrate ability to receive feedback and modify behaviors accordingly

  • Thoroughly understands, monitors and acts on financial performance


Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or enrollment in Master degree program acceptable with continually progression

  • Master's Degree in a related healthcare field

  • Bachelor's Degree -OR- Ph. D. in Nursing

  • Oregon State Licensure as a Registered Nurse

  • Three (3) years of acute care professional experience
