Providence Health & Services Mammography Technologist in Medford, Oregon
Providence is calling a Mammography Technologist to Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, Oregon. This is a per diem position. Available shifts will include hours between 0730-1700, Monday-Friday. This position will primarily serve as vacation, ill time, leave, or education day coverage. Our per diem staff earn an additional 15% in lieu of benefits hourly pay premium.

We are seeking a Mammography Technologist who will perform mammography examinations according to physicians' orders, utilizing a variety of sophisticated mammography equipment, taking into account individual patient's special or age-related needs. Utilizes knowledge and judgment in regard to imaging factors, imaging technique, and patient treatment needed to produce optimal images.
IMAGING SKILLS: Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment:
Positions patients appropriately and consistently obtains high quality, diagnostic mammography images by performing basic and specialty views as indicated by the patient's anatomy, needs and as ordered by the physician.
Competently operates mammography equipment, determines and sets imaging factors utilizing all relevant factors to ensure accurate and quality images with minimal and acceptable repeat rates.
Always provides for safe mammographic operations by adhering to radiation protection standards. Uses lead shielding in accordance with policy. Understands and uses appropriate x-ray techniques to provide high quality imaging while keeping exposure to patient and operator as low as possible.
Presents images and related pertinent patient information to physician for diagnosis.
Assists physicians with invasive procedures as required.
Assists in performing regular ACR/MQSA testing, informing Lead/Coordinator/Manager of need for intervention or repair.
Stocks examination rooms with supplies. Notifies appropriate personnel for reordering needs.
DOCUMENTATION: Gathers complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to all customers:
Routinely prepares examinations for interpretation to include: correct identification and processing of images, adequate clinical history, proper charging and data entry functions and appropriate previous images needed for comparison.
Reviews patients charts and orders to ensure correct examination.
Labels images completely with demographic, position and other needed documentation.
Completes all pertinent documentation including charge sheets, history forms, worksheets and any other necessary paperwork.
Assists in performing ACR quality control, records results and reports variance from normal equipment function.
PATIENT CARE: Provides for patient care and safety using professional judgment in accordance with policies and procedures:
Identifies patient by checking patient's full name and medical record number according to department procedure.
Thoroughly explains the procedure about to be performed in order to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety. Shows concern for patient comfort while obtaining the desired images as ordered by a physician.
Provides respect for patient modesty and sees that patients are properly clothed and covered during the examination.
Maintains awareness of patient status and takes appropriate actions to meet their needs.
Communicates and uses knowledge of related anatomy and physiology to ensure appropriate and effective care to adult and geriatric patients.
Always provides for safe operations by adhering to appropriate radiation protection guidelines.
PROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Practices professional communications, appearance, conduct, punctuality, attendance and attitude that reinforces physician, patient and co-worker respect and confidence:
Maintains appropriate certification and professional expertise through continuing education.
Maintains Professional Portfolio as required by HR policy. Assumes responsibility for mandatory inservice education on an annual basis.
Assists in the department orientation program with new hire technologists and regularly assumes responsibility for student clinical education.
Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assist others, assists in clerical and transportation duties when necessary. Always uses time to the best advantage of the department.
Uses professional judgment and presents a professional image of competency to customers and staff.
Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with written policies and procedures.
Manages stressful situations in a manner that promotes positive outcomes.
PERFORMS OTHER SUCH DUTIES AS REQUESTED:
Communicates pertinent clinical information to patients and/or family member only with the direct instruction from a physician (e.g. radiologist).
Regularly attends required meetings. Actively participates to accomplish positive goals and objectives of the department.
Responds and demonstrates flexibility to changes in the work schedule as determined by the staffing and patient load.
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement
Current certification by the American Registry Radiologic Technology (ARRT) required
Current ARRT certification in Mammography required upon hire, or within six months of employment
Current Oregon Licensure as an RTR required.
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required
