St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Project Manager in Lubbock, Texas

Covenant Health is seeking a Full-time, Day-shift for the Program Management Office for the Covenant Health System.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing project management to key strategic initiatives to support the mission and vision of Providence St Joseph Health / Covenant Health in the Texas / New Mexico Region. This position manages teams from planning phase through implementation to sustainment of large cross-functional and cross-regional system and regional initiatives and related projects of varying complexity. This position fills a key position in flexibly responding to needs of the Clinical Excellence Department and enhancing the internal capability within the organization to support change. Customers include Clinical Excellence, Texas / New Mexico Clinical Council, regional and ministry Chief Medical Officers, and other regional leaders and groups.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads development of chartered projects/initiatives from planning phase through implementation to sustainment using combination of project management, change management, facilitation, and team building expertise. Works with Clinical Excellence leaders, Medical Staff and caregivers to develop and document charters, objectives and metrics, action plans, stakeholder engagement and communication plans, and monitoring systems. Ensures tracking of financial, human, and technical objectives for each project. Provides project status reporting to executive sponsor, initiative owner, project team, and other stakeholders as requested. Develops project-specific escalation and issue management protocols.

  • Sets up and leads multi-disciplinary work teams. Ensures effective communication, training, and post-implementation support strategies are created and implemented among all stakeholder groups.

  • Engages stakeholders in solving problems of varying complexity. Utilizes change management and performance improvement tools. Builds awareness and commitment to the change effort, and leads the ongoing communications and alignment of stakeholders throughout the process. Conducts post-initiative assessments and makes recommendations for improvement based on those assessments.

  • Shares best practices with other members of the Clinical Excellence department as a way of improving upon the collective development of team members.

  • Supports proactive identification, mentoring, and spread of effective strategic project management tools, systems, and structures as part of the Clinical Excellence team.

Minimum Position Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration or Project Management, or related discipline.


  • At least two (2) years Project management experience.

  • Strong project management experience, including development of work plans, metrics, and monitoring processes.

  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading cross-functional and virtual teams for strategically-essential system initiatives with varying complexity.

  • Performance improvement experience using a variety of performance improvement tools.

  • Some experience that demonstrates effectiveness in accomplishing objectives in a complex organization.

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • Experience in healthcare operations for an understanding of the nature of the work performed.

  • Change management, facilitation, team building and process improvement methodologies.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Project Management Professional.
