St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Nurse Supervisor- Adult Emergency dept in Lubbock, Texas

Covenant Health is seeking a full time, evening Nursing Supervisor with the Emergency Department at Covenant Medical Center.

Job Summary:

Plans, supervises, and evaluates the delivery of nursing care, the performance of assigned staff, and unit management. Assists with responsibility 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, for designated clinical area(s) to meet the needs of the patient. Works closely with Department Manager to ensure continuity of care across the continuum. Minimal supervision required.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates knowledge, judgment and organizational abilities to meet the needs of the patients served.

  • Assists in setting expectations, developing plans, and managing the process to assess, improve, and maintain the quality of

  • the organization’s governance, management, clinical, and support activities.

  • Assumes responsibility for assisting in determining staff competency through on-going evaluation of performance.

  • Maintains a responsible attitude toward appropriate and efficient management within the department.

  • Provides support for staffs continued education.

  • Facilitates staff attendance at meetings.

  • Maintains a committed and cooperative attitude with all departments in the organization.

  • Meets all expectations of RN Staff position description.

Emergency Department Nurse Supervisor:

  • Facilitates patient throughput in the Emergency Department.

  • Leadership rounding on patients.

  • Provides supervision of Emergency Department staff, including charge nurses, staff RN’S, ED techs and unit secretaries.

  • Assists in implementation of best practice/new processes and monitors effectiveness of the practice.

  • Coaches staff to reach peak performance.

  • Manages staffing for the current shift and next 24 hours.

  • Works with new employees to help ensure successful orientation to the unit.

  • Facilitates daily huddle.

  • Helps with 1:1 education with staff.

  • Open chart review to ensure appropriate orders and consults completed, completion of required documentation for trauma flow sheet, STEMI, Stroke, Cardiac Arrest, restraint & seclusion, high risk behavioral health patients and procedural/sedation records. Provides coaching with staff to achieve compliance to documentation and standard of care.

  • Work closely with patient placement coordinator to ensure bed needs and appropriate assignment of beds.

  • Oversight of equipment management such as repairs needed by biomedical and stretchers.

  • Ensures completion of reminder letters to patients for abnormal diagnostic studies.

  • Daily checks to maintain JCAHO and CMS readiness

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : Meet the criteria to sit for the NCLEX examination and become licensed in the State of Texas.

Experience :

  • 2 years of Clinical experience

  • 3 years of Emergency Department

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Current license to practice nursing from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or an approved compact state as

  • Registered Nurse.

  • BLS (AHA) required within (30) days of employment.

  • ACLS within 1 year

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's Degree

Experience : Charge Nurse/leadership experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Specialty certification related to practice.

  • PALS

Emergency Department Nurse Supervisor:

  • CEN preferred.

  • ACLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS preferred.
