Covenant Health is seeking a full time Medical Physicist at JACC.

Job Summary :

The Medical Physicist reports and works under the direction of Chief and Manager of Medical Physics. Must be able to work independently in providing clinical physics service to the Radiation Oncology staff and physicians at JACC. The Physicist directly supervises the daily clinical Physics activities for keeping current with the schedule. The Physicist supervises the dosimetrists or in training dosimetrists on all the treatment planning issues and gives directions on performing dosimetry. The Medical physicist works in conjunction with the Jr. physicist in performing weekly patient chart QA, and monthly machine QA. Performs plan validations for IMRT and Stereotactic Radiosurgery planning, brachy therapy source implants and radiophamaceutical therapy. The physicist is responsible for performing annual calibration and QA of linear accelerators and coordinates with the Chief physicist. The Medical physicist works with the Chief Physicist in collecting beam data and commissioning of new linear accelerators and CT simulator. The Medical Physicist helps the Chief physicist in setting up procedures policies and radiation safety program.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs in a timely manner monthly calibrations and quality assurance of all radiation machines weekly patient chart auditing.

  • Evaluates the results of the machine parameters for accuracy, consistently, audits and documents machine performance in a concise, organized and thorough manner.

  • Completes forms for dosimetry, patient treatments, billing, weekly management, physics auditing of chart rounds, process necessary paper work for protocol patients.

  • Collaborates with all the physics and dosimetry staff to ensure that all patient data is properly transferred to the chart for treatment delivery

  • Attends to the machine problems as it occurs during treatment and appropriately reports the problems to the Chief physicist and documents the corrective steps taken. This includes problems that occur during conventional radiation treatment, Peacock IMRT, stereotactic radio surgery and HDR Treatment.

  • Performs and maintains radiation surveys and calibrations in compliance with the Texas Bureau of Radiation control license.

  • Assists the Chief physicist in commissioning linear accelerators, treatment-planning computers and in setting up procedures in radiation Oncology.

  • Keeps adequate knowledge of current regulation and laws as applies to radiation matters so that this information can be shared when appropriate.

  • Verifies the computer modeling through measurements.

  • Provide educational and physics training to the other staff in the department and the Cancer Center

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : Master's Degree in Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or related field

Coursework/Training : Clinical Physics in Radiation Therapy

Experience : 3 years experience in radiation oncology environment as a clinical Medical Physicist under the direct supervision of a certified clinical Medical Physicist

Licenses and Certifications :

  • Licensed or temporary licensed by the Texas Board of Professional Medical Physicist.

  • BLS (AHA) certification within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses and Certifications : Certification by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics in Therapeutic Radiological Physics
