Covenant Health is seeking a full time, night shift EMT Basic with the Emergency Department at Covenant Medical Center.

Job Summary:

The EMT-Basic is responsible for the delivery of quality care for ill or injured patients under varied conditions in collaboration with departmental specific personnel. The EMT-Basic must be highly motivated and able to function using assessment skills and written standards when physician contact is not possible. Must also be able to participate in departmental committees, public relations, and outreach education.

Essential Functions:

  • Must perform rapid assessment and formulate plan of care for optimum patient outcome.

  • Must give direct patient care per medical control (verbal or written).

  • Must perform daily inspection of unit to include; mechanical and medical equipment.

  • Must perform rapid patient assessment to identify and treat life threatening processes.

  • Must communicate pertinent patient information to facility personnel and physicians.

  • Adult Emergency Department, EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced and EMT-Paramedic:

  • Assist with greeting of incoming patient/ families/ visitors.

  • Assist with the initiation of the chart to include the following:

  • Patient's Name.

  • Chief Complaint.

  • Date of Birth.

  • Mode of Arrival.

  • Patient's Primary Physician.

  • List of Home Medication.

  • Allergies.

  • Previous Medical History.

  • Vital Signs.

  • Assist with securing an informed consent for treatment by patient or legal guardian.

  • Communicates with the triage/charge nurse in a timely manner patient information concerning the primary complaint.

  • Assist with transport of patients, supplies, specimens as indicated.

  • Assist with keeping patient tracking board up to date.

  • Assist with data collecting/gathering, documentation of assistance in care provided and communication with primary care nurse/charge nurse any changes in patient’s condition and care provided as directed by licensed staff.

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the environmental needs of the unit, to assure the unit is ready to receive and care for patients, cleaning rooms, stocking rooms/specialty carts and daily assignments.

  • Act as a liaison between patients/families/visitors and emergency department nursing/physician staff.

  • Assist with incoming/outgoing calls and direct to the appropriate staff.

  • Assist with contacting physicians as ordered.

  • Computer order/data entry.

  • Assist with personal hygiene needs of the patient.

  • Answers call lights promptly.

  • Transports patients to in-patient room.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education :

  • Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Texas State Certified Emergency Medical Technician/EMT-Basic OR be eligible to apply for TX EMT Basic certification by reciprocity. Proof of Texas certification required by start date.

  • Must achieve BLS (AHA) certification within thirty (30) days of employment.

  • Texas Driver's License in good standing
