St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Community Paramedic - On Call / Per Diem in Lubbock, Texas

Covenant Health is seeking a On Call / Per Diem Community Paramedic for Community Paramedicine Department at Covenant Health Partners.

Job Summary:

This role has primary responsibilities for the care and management of clients enrolled in Covenant Mobile Integrated Health program. Community Paramedic will be responsible for assessment, interaction, and treatment of those patients enrolled in the Covenant Mobile Integrated Health program. Community Paramedic must be able to interact with physicians and alternative healthcare facilities. The Community Paramedic must be highly motivated and able to care for patients using assessment skills and written standards when physician contact is not possible. This role will also be responsible for participating in advanced medical research and treatment modalities as directed by Medical Director and Paramedic Supervisor. This role will assist with continuing education in areas of community paramedicine as well as education and training of future Community Paramedics. Must be able to participate in Covenant Ambulance Service committees, public relations, and outreach education.

Essential Function:

  • Must be able to function as a field paramedic performing direct ALS care activities.

  • Must perform rapid assessment and formulate plan of care to be used during home visits for optimum patient outcome.

  • Work in an integrative and collaborative way with the CHP navigators to create the best possible outcomes.

  • Serve as an ambassador for Covenant Health to the community we serve.

  • Team oriented and able to communicate and work effectively and efficiently with others.

  • Function in non-traditional settings and provide non-emergency care with a long-term focus.

  • Must be able to identify and treat life threatening processes during home visits.

  • Communicate with multiple agencies to facilitate continuity of care objectives.

  • Familiarity with computers and documentation software including applicable paperwork.

  • Must accurately interpret ECG’s and pertinent lab values and provide care according to findings.

  • Drive a Covenant Ambulance vehicle and have a driving record in compliance with Covenant policy.

  • Participates in activities that promote the Covenant Mobile Integrated Health program and community paramedicine.

  • Must act as a facilitator and educator for any clinical course provided in connection with community paramedicine.

  • Must be able to multi-task and make sound decisions in critical situations.

  • Must communicate pertinent patient information to physicians, Covenant Ambulance personnel and receiving facility if need be.

  • Must be knowledgeable about safety risk and how to prevent safety accidents. (fall precautions and medication administration).

  • Must be able to perform safety risk assessment including but not limited to cord placement, fire extinguisher placement, smoke detectors, and battery checks.

Minimum Position Qualification:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED

Experience: 2 years experience as a paramedic for either 911 or transfer service.

License and Certificate:

  • Must achieve through the American Heart Association: ACLS certification within 30 days of employment.

  • Must achieve through the American Heart Association: PALS certification within 30 days of employment.

  • Must complete/pass Community Paramedic training to obtain a certificate within 60 days of hire.

  • Must complete written exam and become certified in community paramedicine within 1 year of hire.

Preferred Position Qualification:


  • Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Services Management, Business Administration, or other related degree. Or equivalent educ/experience


  • 5 years in Experience as a paramedic in a high-performance 911 system.

  • Trainer or instructor experience.

  • Critical care experience.

License and Certificate:

  • Instructor Certifications in ACLS, PALS, and BLS.

  • Fire 1 and 2 certification with hazmat.

  • Certified in Community Paramedicine.
