St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Child Life Specialist, Pediatric ER in Lubbock, Texas
Covenant Health is seeking a full time, variable shift Child Life Specialist with the Patient Care Department at Covenant Children's Hospital.
Functioning as a member of the health care team, the Child Life Specialist is responsible for supporting children, teens, and family members in the health care setting by providing developmentally appropriate play/recreation and activities, education and preparation for medical procedures, and emotional support of the child and family.
Assesses and prioritizes psychosocial acuity of each patient and establishes a child life care plan in collaboration with the treatment team to meet patient/family psychosocial needs.
Provides education regarding illness/condition, treatment, and coping techniques to patients, family members, and the larger community as appropriate.
Provide opportunities for and facilitate a variety of group and individual play, recreation, and therapeutic activities that promote development, coping, self-expression and mastery for patients and their families.
Supports family-centered care through communication and involvement of parents and other family members.
Provides, through direct and indirect involvement, a safe and therapeutic environment for individuals and groups.
Participates in professional development to enhance job performance and contribute to the departmental and hospital mission and goals.
Educates and assists in the clinical training of child life students as assigned by the senior child life specialist.
Assists with orientation, scheduling, and supervision of departmental volunteers.
Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care that is family-centered, developmentally appropriate, and psychosocially sound.
Consistently provides for clinical documentation and productivity data collection as required by Covenant Children’s and departmental policy
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies or a closely related field
Coursework/Training - Minimum completion of the child life clinical training requirements (e.g., internship) in accordance with the guidelines established by the Association of Child Life Professionals.
Coursework/Training - Trained in child development principles and impact of illness and hospitalization on children and families:Application of therapeutic play, developmental education, and expressive modalities to address psychosocial needs of children and families
Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) through the Child Life Certifying Committee.
BLS (AHA) Certification/training within 30 days of employment
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Experience: 1 year experience working with young children and adolescents in a healthcare setting.
