Covenant Health Hobbs is seeking a Quality Manager!

Job Summary:

The position serves as a champion of quality and patient safety throughout the Children's Hospital. Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer/Chief Quality Officer to provide leadership for hospital-wide efforts to continuously improve the safety, effectiveness, efficiency, patient-centeredness, equity and timeliness of health care service to all patients. Helps lead/manage quality and safety initiatives to achieve outstanding performance on key, nationally standardized metrics of quality and safety. Collaborates with the CMO/CQO, Risk and Regulatory/Standards to play a key role in developing a comprehensive program to minimize patient harm through the implementation of systems that: create a culture of safety; proactively identify risk; encourage adverse event reporting and thoughtful, learning-oriented analysis of safety events and near misses; facilitate hospital wide learning on the part of leaders, clinicians, trainees, and staff; and facilitate system and individual improvements required for the safest possible health care. Serves as a key liaison to all healthcare services: nursing, clinical, administrative, and medical staff throughout the Children's Hospital. The Safety/QM Manager leads the quality improvement process, and is responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of patient safety and quality management, including personnel and budgetary issues, regulatory requirements (TJC, TMF, THCIC, TDH, VON, STS, SJH, Children's Hospital Association of Texas, Children's Hospitals: Solutions for Patient Safety); medical staff quality review (mortality and quality case review); and medical staff meetings as required by the by-laws. Coordinates and facilitates quality management program with partner hospitals as appropriate (i.e., Texas Children's for Cardiac Services). The Safety/QM Manager exercises independent judgment and discretion within agreed upon limitations and takes actions as needed based on knowledge of the organization, its policies, procedures, and personnel.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all identified outcome measures as denoted on Performance Assessment.

  • Sets expectations, develops plans, and manages the processes to support the activities and goals of the patient safety and QI review and Medical Staff quality programs (CHAT, Children’s National Network: SPS, CHA collaboratives).

  • Develops and coordinates monitoring methods to include tracking, trending and other reporting tools for QI programs, Serious Safety Event Review including facilitation of Top 10 Safety Issues, and Regulatory compliance.

  • Develops and manages the department budget in coordination with the CQO.

  • Assumes responsibility for training staff and determining staff competency through on-going evaluation of performance.

  • Maintains knowledge of standards, regulations, and reporting of requirements of TJC, CMS Conditions of Participation and other regulatory and review agencies and coordinates with all facets of the organization to achieve and maintain compliance with various regulatory and accrediting bodies.

  • Initiates, prioritizes and manages multiple special projects and studies to improve organization-wide quality and safety process and system reliability.

  • Participates on various hospital committees and attends and presents information at medical staff, organizational and administrative meetings as needed.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.

  • Or equivalent education/experience: Equivalent or further degree in health care or a related component.

Experience:

  • 5 years experience in healthcare or quality management.

  • Experience with PC and mainframe systems including abstracting and reporting functions.

  • Experience in various PC software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphic presentation and flowcharting.

License/Certifications:

  • License or certification in healthcare-related field (Examples: ART, RRA, CCS, RN, CPHQ).

Preferred Position Qualifications:

  • CPHQ certification.
