We are looking for a Hyperbaric Technologist with the Wound Care Department at Healdsburg Hospital for Nor Cal Health Connect.

Location: Healdsburg, CA

Work Schedule: On call / Per diem

Shift: 8 hour Days

Job Summary:

The Hyperbaric technician is responsible for administration of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to patients as prescribed by the supervising hyperbaric physician, through safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber and related support systems. The technician performs routine system maintenance, adheres to all safety requirements, provides physical assistance to patients as needed. This person also assists with other departmental tasks as needed. Collects data and documents treatments per policy.

This staff member shall have the authority to restrict and remove any potentially hazardous procedure, process, supply, or equipment items from the hyperbaric environment. They also provide training and support to the clinical personnel and supervise development and monitoring all standards for HBOT training and qualification programs relating to safe operation of the chamber systems.

Skills :

  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA99 Chapter 19, PVHO I, CGA and other hyperbaric safety code related guidelines.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to the mission statement

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of hyperbaric terminology. Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of Hyperbaric Medicine.

  • General knowledge of insurance authorization and treatment guidelines for utilization of CMS approved treatments and payment guidelines.

  • May be required to perform work outside of regularly scheduled working hours, such as weekends, and may be asked to participate in regular rotation of call coverage for emergency hyperbaric treatments.

  • Demonstrated experiences with a mechanical background.

  • Has knowledge of liquid oxygen and gases used at pressure,

  • Ability to generate dive tables Understanding of Hyperbaric treatment protocols

  • Knowledge of chamber acrylic care

  • Understanding of physics related to pressure exposures

  • Ability to perform basic calculations for the conversion of common units used in diving and hyperbaric practice

  • Knowledgeable about medical gas delivery systems including dewars and large vessel storage tanks.

  • Understanding of the principles of heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation

  • Understanding of mechanism of action for all UHMS approved hyperbaric oxygen indications

  • Understanding of direct effects of pressure change ( how and where barotraumas occurs)

  • Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of decompressions illness (DCI)

  • Understanding of relevant aspects of anatomy and physiology pertaining to HBOT patients

  • Capable of providing clinical support and assist in the prevention and/or management of pressure related problems due to HBOT

  • Understanding of all hyperbaric emergency procedures

  • Understanding of oxygen toxicity

  • Knowledgeable of fire equipment associated with HBOT

  • Have a working knowledge of and be able to troubleshoot issues with the atmosphere conditions system, gas farm, chamber lighting system, nitrogen services, patient monitoring system (cameras), chamber oxygen monitoring, patient entertainment system, pressurization and depressurizations systems, , mask breathing system, and chamber control systems.

  • Perform transcutaneous oxygen monitoring (tCOM) and or Sensilase testing as ordered and per departmental policy.

  • Good computer skills

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : Graduate from an accredited institution or equivalent recognized formal medical training in any of the disciplines listed above. Completion of 40 hour hyperbaric training course approved by the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) or National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology.

Experience : Experience in compression chamber operations. Comprehensive, specific training and experience in chamber maintenance, including a demonstrated mechanical background

Licensure and Certification : California Hyperbaric Technician/Technologist certification. LVN/LPN, RN,

Respiratory Care Practitioner, national EMT Paramedic certification, or national

Medical Assistant Certification. Current BLS

Preferred Position Qualifications:

  • A.S./B.S. degree preferred.

  • Minimum of one year of clinical hyperbaric systems operation preferred.
