St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Ultrasound Technologist - Cardiology in Fullerton, California

We are looking for an Ultrasound Technologist for the Cardiology Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: On Call / Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Performs all required ultrasound procedures for diagnostic purposes for patients of any age group. Champions quality under the supervision and direction of Physician Champion. Assists quality control processes in accordance with department, hospital, and regulatory standards. Compliant with holiday, weekend, evening and night shift coverage as required. Assists education and training of staff and students. May assist with creating staff work schedules. Assists with coordinating daily staffing workflow and triaging of patients as needed to optimize care and services. Able to push, pull and lift 50 pounds as required to perform daily activities. Responsible for supplies and Par levels needed for patient care. Provides required records/documentation to meet regulatory requirements. Completes required organizational and regulatory education and training as required for role. Prioritizes organizational and department goals into daily operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently demonstrates competence in performing ultrasound techniques and examinations according to age appropriate protocols with special attention to:

  • Ultrasound Dept.: abdominal, retroperitoneal, obstetric, gynecologic, thyroid, testicle, breast, neonatal brain, vascular and miscellaneous soft tissue scanning or Cardiology Dept.: Resting and Stress Echocardiograms, Vascular, TEE, Intra-operative scanning.

  • Assists physicians during special procedures.

  • Performs duties in an independent manner assuring high quality with minimal supervision; champions new responsibilities as directed to improve department operations and patient care with a willingness to learn.

  • Performs general office duties as needed to support daily operation including; complete necessary patient informed consents; complete computer data entry to ensure proper charges; answers phones, files, and schedules patients.

  • Assists with maintaining staffing levels appropriate to meet volume demands within the department.

  • Completes all STAT and add-on cases as requested or required; requests assistance when necessary in order to complete scheduled procedures.

  • Reviews physician prescription and requisition for Ultrasound examination to determine procedure requested, patient’s condition, and any special instructions.

  • Regularly checks equipment, accessories, and supplies; keeps area stocked at all times with all items, cleans and disinfects equipment after each patient use; maintains supplies as required; reports equipment failure to ultrasound supervisor.

  • Participates in Evening, Weekend and Holiday rotations.

Minimum Position Requirements:


  • Associate's Degree from an approved AMA school. Or equivalent educ/experience

  • Coursework/Training - Maintain required continuing education hours necessary to renew license/certification.

Experience: Experience in cross-sectional anatomy, as well as the principles of physics, related to Ultrasound.


  • For General Ultrasound Sonographer:

  • ARDMS RDMS Certified.

  • American Heart BLS Healthcare Provider level.

  • For Cardiovascular Sonographer:

  • ARDMS RDCS and RVT Certification (May have only one ARDMS certification at time of hire but must obtain second certification within 12 months of hire).

  • American Heart BLS Healthcare Provider level.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: 3 years experience.
