St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health RN II - Recovery Room - PACU in Fullerton, California

We are looking for a Registered Nurse II for Recovery Room - PACU Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time - 48 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 12-hour, Days

Job Summary:

The RN independently uses the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for a group of patients. Uses information from a variety of sources to assess, plan, implement, identify outcomes and evaluate patient's plan of care.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitates patient care through effective communication.

  • Develops and maintains therapeutic and effective relationships with patient/family and the health care team.

  • Delegates care appropriately.

  • Participates in Shared Governance/Participative Leadership.

  • Demonstrates awareness of unit and service guidelines related to staffing and scheduling.

  • Recovery Room (PACU) 742700-F01:

  • Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to prepare and manage recovery of patients who have had general, regional or monitored anesthesia. Patient services includes: orthopedic procedures, ophthalmic, general surgery, gynecological, genitourinary, pediatric ENT procedures, etc.

  • Competent in airway management.

  • Knowledge and competent in utilizing PACU equipment and supplies, TENS unit, IV pumps, oximetry, defibrillator, monitors, airways, ambu bag, etc.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of narcotic/anesthetic agents, reversal agents, and effects of these agents and the potential complications, side effects and educates patient to the discharge medications and major side effects.

  • Demonstrates knowledge in educating post-op patients/families for managing care at home.

  • Accurately identifies and interprets dysrhythmias on EKG’s and consistently documents interpretations of rhythm strips per hospital policy. Acts as a resource for peers in the interpretation of EKG dysrhythmias. Initiates and delivers appropriate interventions related to dysrhythmias in a timely manner and consistently documents interventions and outcomes.

  • Competent in pain management for patients who are emerging from general, MAC and local anesthesia.

  • Demonstrates the ability to assist in O.R. providing nurse monitored sedation to patients undergoing surgery or procedures requiring sedation analgesia.

  • Competently assists physicians and anesthesiologists with special procedures and tests as required; i.e. Epidural Steroid Injections and Regional Blocks.

Minimum Position Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing:

  • Graduate from nursing school (Hired on/after 1/1/11), or Hired prior to 1/1/11 (and rehired after 1/1/11):

  • Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; or Hired as a result of a unit transfer from Heritage:

  • Graduate from nursing school with a diploma, Associate Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; or Hired as a ministry transfer:

  • Currently enrolled in a BSN program with an expected graduation date within 6 months of hire.


  • One (1) year acute care experience.


  • Current CA Registered Nurse License.

  • American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications: Professional Nursing Organization Membership.
