St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Patient Access Auditor - Outpatient Surgery Center in Fullerton, California

We are looking for a Patient Access Auditor for the Outpatient Surgery Center Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time - 48 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days

Job Summary:

Responsible: Performing audits on business office folders for accuracy and completeness. Auditing and coordinating activities of all registration functions at any physical location within the hospital domain. Provides feedback to the manager on inaccurate/incomplete data collected to facilitate the provision of follow-up education. Assists in the training of new employees as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides on-going training and assessment of staff’s competencies, which focus on the overall needs of the department.

  • Demonstrates hands-on expertise on all Admitting Service functions.

  • Analyzes, monitors, and documents quality of registration staff performance through quality indicators, key performance measures/outcomes and compliance with government and system standards.

  • Provides manager with monthly updates/summaries of key performance indicators.

  • Coordinates registration activities across multiple registration areas.

  • A partner with Hospital resources to maintain IS systems related to Admitting Services.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to deal tactfully with associates, patients, visitors and the general public.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of pre-admission, authorization, verification, insurance, reimbursement contracts and departmental/system policies and procedures.

  • Understanding of Admitting Services’ impact on the hospital accounts receivable, cash flow and bad debt processes.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

  • Ability to run necessary reports for staff.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: H.S. Diploma or GED


  • 2 years recent experience in Admitting Services.

  • 2 years experience in Business Office, Hospital or Medical Office setting.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Coursework/Training - College or Vocational education.
