St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Orthopedic Technician in Fullerton, California

We are looking for a Orthopedic Technician with SJuHMG Plaza Ortho at Heritage Healthcare.

Locatio n: Fullerton, CA

Schedule : Full-time

Shift : Day

Job Summary :

Under the general supervision of the Back Office Lead/Medical Office Manager, the Orthopedic Technician will assist the orthopedic physician in providing casts and/or limb stability, wound care, general patient education, and general nursing care to the maximum extent allowed by their certification and/or licensure.

Skills :

  • Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopedic conditions based on the understanding of the anatomical structures and their relationship with one another.

  • Ability to apply upper and lower and remove upper and lower extremity casts.

  • Ability to apply, adjust and remove all common orthopedic devices.

  • Knowledge of theory and application of skin or skeletal traction.

  • Knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques in dressing change, removal of sutures or staples and in setting up surgical fields.

  • Ability to interpret simple fractures and dislocations on x-ray films.

  • Ability to read and write, understand and follow written and verbal instructions, keep records of traction applications, communicate detailed information to patients regarding orthopedic procedures and basic knowledge of leverage and physiology.

Position Requirements:

Education :

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Requires completion of an accredited orthopedic technical training program.

Experience : Requires three (3) years in an ambulatory/acute care or orthopedic setting working directly in the treatment of the orthopedic patient.

License / Certification :

  • Current NBCOT certification

  • Current CPR (BLS) certificate

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Experience : Four (4) plus years’ experience in an acute / ambulatory care setting preferred.

License / Certificatio n: NAOT certification highly desirable.

Computer Skills: Meditech and Touchworks (Allscripts) experience a plus.

Other: Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
