We are looking for a Clinical Coordinator for the General Surgery Department at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Work Schedule: Full Time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 10-hour, Days

Job Summary:

The Clinical Coordinator will coordinate the activities of the Patient Care Unit to facilitate quality patient care in support of the Mission and Values. The Clinical Coordinator assumes responsibility for the administration of the nursing unit as delegated by or in the absence of the Nurse Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for assignment of staff based on clinical competency, patient acuity, and technological needs.

  • Review’s schedule on a daily basis and identifies equipment, staffing, and logistic needs.

  • Assists in the coordination of the delivery of quality patient care in accordance with nursing standards, Title 22 and JCAHO regulations.

  • Handles emergency situations.

  • Participates in staff interviews and coaches for success with evaluation of staff performance ongoing to achieve established unit goals.

  • Assists the Nurse Manager in monitoring productivity commensurate with care delivery system and in conjunction with financial parameters.

  • Assists the Nurse Manager and Education Coordinator with Planning, implementation and evaluation of in-service programs and research studies/projects.

  • • Specialty Department: Assists the Manager with planning, implementation and evaluation of the Multispecialty Clinic Program.

  • Completes employee performance appraisals based on competencies in a thorough and timely fashion in collaboration with Nurse Manager.

  • Assists in the coordination of strict safety standards to promote optimal outcomes.

  • Participates in employee timekeeping functions.

  • Other specific competencies that have been identified by the manager related to changes in departmental operations or that focus on current clinical practices and are listed on the Supplemental Competence Validation Summary.

  • General Surgery, 742100-F01:• Manages the patient requiring surgical intervention.• Clinical Nurse II: • Able to circulate and scrub procedures. • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use, troubleshoot and maintain specialty equipment. • Takes call, responds to clinical situations during shift. • Clinical Nurse III, Clinical Nurse IV: • Able to circulate and scrub procedures. • Is a resource and demonstrates knowledge and ability to use, troubleshoot and maintain specialty equipment. • Takes call, responds and manages clinical and operational situations during shift. • Clinical Coordinator and Nurse Manager: • Able to circulate and scrub procedures. • Is a resource and demonstrates knowledge and ability to use, troubleshoot and maintain specialty equipment. • Responds and manages clinical and operational situations for departmental needs 24/7.


  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to create a calming, nurturing environment for patients.

  • General Surgery, 742100-F01:

  • Maintains competencies to perform in function of RNFA (Specific nursing only).

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.


  • Three (3) years experience in specialty or related area.

  • Experience in Acute Care Operating Room.


  • Current CA Registered Nurse License.

  • National Specialty Certification (within 1 year of transfer/hire into position).

  • American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
