St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Chaplain - Spiritual Care in Fullerton, California

We are looking for a Chaplain with Spiritual Care at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Fullerton, California

Work Schedule: On Call/Per Diem - 1 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8 Hour Days

Job Summary:

The associate staff chaplain is a non-certified chaplain who ministers to the religious, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients, families and staff within St. Jude Medical Center. He/she demonstrates a professional and personal commitment to spiritual growth, has basic training in hospital or other spiritual care ministry, and upholds the ethical standards of professional chaplains. The associate staff chaplain works collaboratively with other board-certified chaplains. The Associate Staff Chaplain reports to the Director of the Spiritual Care Department.

Essential Functions:

  • Initiate and maintain accurate and timely EMR documentation of all patient, family and staff interventions.

  • Adhere to department/ministry performance standards as related to scheduling and improving performance activity.

  • Work as a collaborative member of the Spiritual Care Department as well as the Mission Integration Department.

  • Participate as an active member of various unit/department based interdisciplinary teams.

  • Lead various department related groups and/or regional initiatives.


  • Evidence of competency in theology.

Position Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Theological reflection or training in theological reflection


  • Experience in Chaplaincy / spiritual care ministry

License / Certification:

  • Ecclesiastical endorsement from the chaplain’s respective denomination or faith tradition

Preferred Position Qualifications:


  • Completed or in process of completing 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education with plans to seek certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains or the Association of Professional Chaplains
