Swedish Health Services Point of Care and Quality Coordinator in Edmonds, Washington


Swedish Medical Center is looking for a Point of Care and Quality Coordinator (1.0 FTE, Day Shift) in Laboratory Admin at Swedish Edmonds located in Edmonds, WA.

Responsibility and commensurate authority to coordinate all activities associated with POC testing performed within the hospital.

This includes, but is not limited to, coordinating the selection of the devices to be used for testing, performance verification of devices, preparation of all required documentation, training and training oversight, oversight and control of all related quality issues.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure compliance with all requirements for POCT as set forth by the College of American Pathologist Inspection & Accreditation process, The Joint Commission (TJC) or the State of Washington requirements

  • Co-Chair the Point of Care Committee within the hospital

  • Lead the selection process for the introduction or replacement of POCT devices or test methodologies including the documentation required for selection justification

  • Oversee training and periodic competency testing processes for all personnel performing POCT


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the physical sciences (biology, physics, chemistry) from an accredited University or college or Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited program

  • Two (2) years experience in Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician in a Medical (Clinical) Laboratory.

  • One (1) year experience in point of care testing, preferably as a coordinator or assistant coordinator.

  • Registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Board of Certification (BOC)(formerly know as the ASCP Board of Registry) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS(BOC)) or as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or other Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) approved certifying agency, or be eligible for certification.

  • A person who is eligible for certification shall be required to successfully become certified within one year from the date of employment.
