Swedish Health Services Medical Laboratory Technician OR Medical Technologist - Core Lab in Edmonds, Washington

Description:

Swedish is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) (0.75 FTE, Night Shift) to work

in the Core Lab Department at Swedish Edmonds in Edmonds, WA.

Performs assays accurately and timely on patient samples using a variety of automated and manual testing procedures to

aid physician in patient diagnosis and treatment. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives,

safety, environmental and infectious control standards so that the laboratory remains in compliance with accreditation and

licensing agencies.

Work Schedule: 10 hour shifts, 6 days on / 8 days off rotation

In this position you will:

- Perform assays and evaluate results for abnormal, critical or alert values

- Perform and document quality control, preventive maintenance and trouble shooting on assays and instruments

- Identify emergency or STAT situations

- Answer telephones, provide results, and contact physician’s offices or nursing stations with results of STATS, critical or

alert values

- Collects specimens and delivers to the appropriate areas of the laboratory

- Receive and distribute supplies

- Assist in care and maintenance of work area

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The caregiver must be sufficiently fluent in the English language to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. The degree of fluency required will vary depending upon the nature of the position.

Caregivers are expected

In this position you will:

o Perform assays and evaluates all results for abnormal, critical or alert values before releasing any into the computer, assuring accuracy and completeness of testing. Evaluate results in order to provide physicians, nursing and additional ancillary departments the information necessary to select appropriate treatment.

o May be required to read and evaluate organisms in order to provide physicians and pharmacy the information necessary to select appropriate treatment.

o Perform and document quality control, preventive maintenance and trouble shooting on all assays and instruments in the laboratory in accordance with CAP and CLIA regulations to help ensure testing accuracy.

o Identify emergency or STAT situations in order to maintain the laboratory's responsiveness to life threatening patient situations participating with coworkers, evaluating workflow and prioritizing responsibilities to provide effective patient care.

o Answer telephones throughout the department, providing results when requested or forwarding the call as required as well as contacting the physician's offices or nursing stations with requested verbal results of STATS, critical or alert values to expedite reporting.

o Responsible for the required documentation of receipt in the laboratory that is consistent with department procedures to provide a complete record. Receive supplies and distribute them to the appropriate department. Assist in care and maintenance of work area by wiping counters and centrifuges with disinfectant to remain in compliance with regulatory agencies.

o Assist with the orientation of new employees, and or students providing them with consistent information.

Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology or related discipline.

o Medical Technologist certification (ASCP or equivalent) required.
