Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Director, Patient Access PSJH in the greater Los Angeles, CA area.

We are seeking a Director, Patient Access PSJH to be responsible for managing day to day Patient Access Services functions related to registration, point of service collections, screening of uninsured patients in the emergency department, and patient experience in the market. The Director Patient Access serves as the ministry and market patient access expert and assists in the resolution of related inquiries. This individual acts in coordination with other Revenue Cycle leaders to establish department priorities and metrics and is accountable for achieving results as defined in the service level agreements with the market. This position is also responsible for identifying and solving patient access related issues and implementing performance improvement and other operational initiatives as needed. In addition, the Director Patient Access ensures staff adherence to productivity, quality, and compliance standards.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct the registration activities in the market to include accurate demographic and insurance information, point of service collections and self-pay screening in the ED with special focus on achieving a positive caregiver and patient experience. Collaborate with revenue cycle and ministry leadership to transform and continue to improve the patient experience.

  • Develop and implement department goals and objectives and evaluate/devise methods for meeting goals. Collaborate with Pre-Service and Financial Counseling leadership to ensure Revenue Cycle target are met and the processes between the departments are efficient, effective and positively impact the patient experience.

  • Prepare annual department budget and implement the approved budget goals. Report and justify variances from the budgeted level.

  • Analyze identified problems to determine case and desired resolution. Take steps necessary to implement resolution. Oversee personnel quality and productivity reviews and provide feedback to staff members based on quality assurance on registration, eligibility and other key elements.

  • Enforce all policies and procedures relating to assigned departmental functions and monitor Revenue Cycle Metrics.

  • Contribute to the development of program recommendations, procedures for improved operations, modifications to and/or implementations of new procedures.

  • Establish direction and priorities of work activities within the department and collaboration with peer revenue cycle leaders, especially with Financial Counseling and Pre-Service leaders to improve processes, patient communications and successful outcomes.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, retention and mentoring of qualified managers, supervisor and caregivers. Ensure the orientation, development, and compliance with on-going training activities for all department staff. Director is responsible for maintaining and improving caregiver engagement.

  • Executive Director will establish long and short term unit goals and objectives to support department and Revenue Cycle strategic plan. Director will work with Managers in accomplishing goals and objectives.

  • Responsible for maintaining work environment conducive to high morale of employees.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent educ/experience

  • 7 years Patient access supervisory/management experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration

  • BLS - Basic Life Support upon hire

  • 1 year knowledge of Epic Applications
