St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Rehabilitation Services Aide - Outpatient Rehab Specialty Clinic in Brea, California

We are looking for a Rehabilitation Services Aide with the Outpatient Rehab Specialty Clinic at St. Jude Medical Center.

Location: Brea, CA

Work Schedule: Part time - 48 Biweekly hours

Shift: 8 hour Days

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and the therapy personnel in the building, the PT/OT Aide II/Life Skills Trainer is trained to supervise clients in assigned treatment and functional activities, providing assistance and direction as needed. These activities include assisting clients with personal care, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate social behavior, assisting in documentation and providing service in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Pathology, under direct supervision and guidance. The PT/OT Aide II/Life Skills Trainer follows an individualized performance development plan to maintain current knowledge and be competent in critical areas, support program goals, Medical Center goals and objectives, functions and philosophy.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs day program activities in a manner consistent with training provided in physical handling and emotional support of clients and populations served. (i.e., personal care, transfers, ambulation and functional tasks). These activities may be provided in a group therapy session with a licensed therapist, or by supervising several clients engaged in individual activities or by assisting a group of clients in functional activities in the clinic or in the community.

  • Manages behavior and elicits appropriate social interaction through modeling, direct client feedback and carrying out plans as prescribed.

  • Provides clients with assistance and guidance in therapy activities recommended by Registered Occupational Therapist, including activities of daily living, productive activities and functional tasks.

  • Provides clients with assistance and guidance in therapy activities recommended by licensed Physical Therapist including mobility training, gait activities and developmental sequence.

  • Provides clients with assistance and guidance in therapy activities recommended by Speech Pathologist, including cognitive tasks (memory/attention/problem solving, etc.), writing tasks, oral motor exercises and language related exercises.

  • Organizes therapy environment and therapy materials for optimum client success. Maintains cleanliness of treatment area and equipment (i.e., maintains inventory, equipment, treatment supplies, linens).

  • Communicates client problems to other treaters and communicates strategies, goals, support, techniques and optimism to clients.

  • Maintains records as appropriate to assigned program (daily documentation, billing, medical record maintenance, data collection, temperature logs, etc.).

  • Completes clerical duties as assigned (photocopying, faxing, filing).

  • Assists with orienting new staff & volunteers to tasks, as directed in assigned program.

Skills :

  • Demonstrates skills necessary to perform.

  • Reads, writes and communicates orally and is able to correct errors when made by clients.

  • Preferred: Multilingual.

  • Preferred: Competence in computers and computer applications (word-processing).

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : H.S. Diploma or GED

Licenses / Certification:

  • Certification of completion of training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Class C) which has been completed within the last 2 years.

  • Valid driver license.

  • Proof of clear driving record.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education : Coursework/Training - Education in therapy areas or patient care or equivalent educ/experience
