St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Respiratory Care Practitioner III - Respiratory Therapy Department in Apple Valley, California

We are looking for a Respiratory Care Practitioner - USW (United Steelworkers) with the Respiratory Therapy Department at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: Full time - 72 Biweekly hours

Shift: 12 hour (Variable) Days

Job Summary:

Provides Respiratory Therapy in all non-critical areas and all adult critical care areas of the hospital, including NICU. Performs Complete and bedside Pulmonary Function Testing as ordered by the Medical Staff of St. Mary Medical Center. Such procedures include, but are not limited to, the following: mechanical ventilation (including BIPAP), oxygen therapy, complete patient assessments, comprehensive patient assessments (TDP), chest physiotherapy, coughing and breathing exercises, aerosol therapy, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, TCOM monitoring, CPR, administration of aerosolized medications and therapeutic gases. Draws, analyzes, and interprets blood gases. Performs quality control and maintenance on blood gas and co-oximetry instruments. The RCP III exercises independent judgment, makes Respiratory Care decisions and takes action based on the knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Supervises Respiratory Care Students patient care delivery and RCP I, RCP II staff.

NICU Position Summary:

Mechanical ventilation (including CPAP) oxygen therapy, oxyhood, chest physiotherapy, end-tidal C02 monitoring, Tcom monitoring, CPR, administration of aerosolized medications and therapeutic gases. Attends all high risk deliveries, attends all c-section, pulse oximetry monitoring. Administers surfactant therapy, intubation assist. Draws, analyzes, and interprets blood gases. Reports appropriately through the chain of command.

Age-Related Competencies: Neonate (birth–28 days), Infant (28 days–1 year), Child (1-12 years), Adolescent (13-18 years), Adult (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years–death).

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of patient's status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide for the primary population of patients served in the department.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all essential job functions of the RCP level I job description.

  • Performs all essential job functions of the RCP Level II job description.

  • Provides Respiratory Therapy in all critical care areas of the hospital (NICU, ICU, ER).

  • Performs Complete Pulmonary Function Testing.

  • Participate in “Special Projects”, hospital and department based Functional Teams, preceptor to students, Level I and II Respiratory Therapist and assists with general staff education.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the Intensive Care environment.

Skills:

  • Completion of competencies of a RCP and II by evidence of signed Acknowledgment by the Director and/or Supervisor of Respiratory Care.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of Respiratory Therapy Procedures.

  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot all Respiratory Therapy equipment.

  • Organizational skills.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (copier, fax, personal computer, and printer).

Position Requirements:

Education:

  • Graduated from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.

Experience:

  • One (1) year Experience as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist combined with a background in physiology and pharmacology.

License/Certification:

  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by State of California by evidence of Primary Source Verification.

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS).

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
